Best Betting Picks Services: How we review pick services

With sports betting gaining popularity, there’s no shortage of companies and individuals selling picks.

Social media platforms and websites across the internet are loaded with people offering to trade you winners for a price. There are a few great pick services out there that deliver on their promises, but unfortunately the majority of these services are less trustworthy than a Magic 8 Ball.

The less trustworthy picks services are simply put are scam artists that exaggerate their winnings and level of expertise, so if you’re looking for a trusted source for wagering recommendations, we’re here to help. Here you’ll find the reviews that I, as Odds Shark's in-house professional handicapper, have done on pick services so you don’t have to waste your time searching for the diamond in the rough and instead can focus your energy on more important things like shopping around for the best number.

The Odds Shark difference

To start, each pick service is closely analyzed by me before publishing  a review.

Similar to a “secret shopper” in a retail store or restaurant, I sign up for the pick service and receive each betting recommendation as if I were a new customer. I also meet 1-on-1 with the pick service’s top manager or handicapper at least twice to vet them and understand on a deeper level how their service works.

The valuable insight I gain from these interviews and the “secret shopper” experience are detailed in each review I publish. Each pick service also provides us a qualitative and quantitative survey about their services to ensure they are self-aware about the services they provide.

Scoring categories

Our intentional review process measures the following categories:

Odds Shark's Picks Services Review Categories

The following is the criteria that Tony will use to examine and review betting picks services.

  1. Accuracy

Simply put, the accuracy score measures how good the service is at providing winning picks.

  2. Experience

This category grades how long a pick provider has been in business. While longevity doesn’t always correlate to better performance, it’s a good sign when a pick provider has a long-term fanbase.

  3. Transparency

The transparency score reflects how open the pick provider is about their past history (especially losing bets).

  4. Value

This rating compares the cost of sign-up with the volume of picks (and the number of sports they offer).

  5. Analysis

Everyone loves picks, but analysis can often set pick providers apart by giving a detailed explanation of why they recommend their games. This category measures the quality of the analysis (if applicable).

  6. Customer Service

This category measures how well you can expect to be treated as customer of the service.

Two pick providers I do trust and think can help you handicap games better are Wunderdog Sports Picks and Doc’s Sports Picks. They’ve both been in the industry 20+ years and provide great customer service, transparency, and picks from a wide variety of sports.
