The winter blues are over and it’s clay season as the 2023 French Open is heading into the semi-finals.
Let's break down the French Open favorites on both the men's and women's tennis courts.
According to the French Open odds at a variety of online sportsbooks, Novak Djokovic is the heavy -500 favorite on the men's court. In the women’s section, No. 1 Iga Swiatek (-275) is heavily favored to win the tournament title in back-to-back years.

Nadal Pulls Out of french open
Once at +400 odds, the Spaniard officially pulled out weeks before the start of the tournament with a hip injury.

The 36-year-old is an insane 112-3 at the French Open and a stellar 63-8 in clay-court finals. It will be the first time since 1998 that neither Nadal nor Federer will play in the Grand Slam tournament.
Medvedev Upset in opening round!
Well, the path to the finals has gotten a lot easier for the men's competition in Paris. No. 2 Daniil Medvedev was brutally upset by unranked Thiago Seyboth Wild in a gritty match.

The Russian was top five on the oddsboard at +1000 to win the tournament before getting shown the door.
Rune runs out of gas
No. 6 Rune looked like a force to be reckoned with after beating Djokovic, the defending champ, in the Italian Open quarterfinals (6-2, 4-6, 6-2). It marked his second win over Djokovic in less than six months.
The 20-year-old was energetically gritty throughout the tournament, victorious in the fourth round over No. 23 Cerundolo after a battle (7-3, 3-6, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6).
Then our value pick fell in the quarterfinals to No. 4 Casper Ruud in four sets.

The court coverage by Holger is astounding.
The ruthlessness & finesse by Ruud is just cruel tennis in the most brilliant way.

French Open Odds: Carlos Alcaraz's Tragic Defeat
Fresh off defending his Madrid Open title, Carlos Alcaraz is the favorite in Paris, France. At just 20 years old, Alcaraz was carrying a shining 35-3 record in his 2023 luggage. The Spaniard has hoisted four titles since the new year, three of which were won on clay.
Carlos Alcaraz in 2023:

6 tournaments played
- 4 titles (Indian Wells, Madrid, Barcelona and Buenos Aires)
- 1 final (Rio)
- 1 semifinal (Miami)
29 wins, 2 losses

For the first time in his career, Alcaraz entered as a top seed in a Grand Slam. He has dropped just a single set all tournament, including breezing through No. 26 Shapovalov (6-1, 6-4, 6-2) and No. 17 Musetti (6-3, 6-2, 6-2) in his recent two rounds.
Then, in the third set of his semi-final meeting with No. 3 Djokovic, Alcaraz cramped up in his calf. His game deteriorated until the Serbian took over (6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1).
It was a tragic defeat as the match was abundant with beautiful shots and plenty of respect between the two tennis stars.
there is no way Carlos Alcaraz just did that.#RolandGarros

Now, there's only one viable option for us bettors, Djokovic to take it all.

Karolina Muchova | +400 |
Rybakina Withdraws From Tournament
Heading into her third-round matchup over the unranked Sorribes Tormo, No. 4 Rybakina bowed out of the tournament. One second on the oddsboard at +350 odds, the Kazakhstani was forced to leave Roland Garros with an illness.
French Open Women's Odds: Swiatek Takes Over Oddsboard (-500)
After hoisting two of the last three French Open titles, it's obvious the world No. 1 would be a minus-odds favorite for the tournament.
Swiatek, currently 14-1 on clay this year, dominated in 2022. The 21-year-old pocketed a whopping 37-match win streak and eight titles to earn over 11,000 ranking points at the end of the year.
Iga Swiatek has been holding the WTA No.1 ranking since April 3, 2022.

Only two women held the No.1 ranking for more consecutive weeks in their 1st stint at No.1:

Martina Hingis (80)

But, that insane success is hard to upkeep. After dropping the Madrid Open to her on-court enemy Aryna Sabalenka (3-6, 6-3, 3-6), it's clear a true women's rivalry is brewing.
The Polish star strategically opted out of this season's Miami Open and Billie Jean King Cup in hopes to be in top shape to defend her title -- and she is. So far, she hasn't given her competition a chance. Picking up an easy third-round win over Xinyu Wang (6-0, 6-0) and was on pace to take down Ukraines' Tsurenko before she was forced to retire.

Sabalenka's Gut-Wrenching Loss in semi-Finals
After Sabalenka's loss, Swiatek's odds dropped from -275 to -500, proving her route to hoist the title has gotten smoother.
No. 2 Sabalenka holds a 3-5 overall career record when facing Swiatek, claiming the win in two of their last three meetings. But, there won't be a rematch after Sabalenka was knocked out by Muchova (6-7, 7-6, 5-7). Despite Sabalenka being up 5-2 in the final set, the Czech pushed to win 20 of the last 24 points of the match.
