The bracket is set, the NCAA tournament is underway and the odds to win March Madness are out. At Site, Duke are currently the favorites to win March Madness followed closely by a strong group of SEC contenders.

Following Duke (+210) in the March Madness odds are: Florida at +430, Auburn at +480, Houston at +550 and Tennessee at +1600 to round out the top five on the March Madness betting odds board.

Duke Favorites to Win March Madness

Duke cruised through the 2024-25 season to the tune of a 30-3 record, falling only to then-No. 19 Kentucky, then-No. 1 Kansas and Clemson. Along that run, the Blue Devils also knocked off a very impressive Auburn squad 84-78 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils then marched through the ACC Tournament, despite losing arguably the best player in the nation, Cooper Flagg, to injury in the quarterfinal.

When the bracket was released, it was clear the Blue Devils had a nice draw as the No. 1 seed in the fairly light East Region. Duke breezed through Mount Saint Mary's in the first round, and destroyed the Baylor Bears 89-66 on Sunday in a second round game that seemed more like a practice for the Blue Devils. According to our friends at bet365, Duke remains the hottest ticket on the March Madness National Championship board.

Arizona are next on the docket for Jon Scheyer's team in a Sweet 16 showdown. But, as one NBA scout put it this past week, opponents are going to have to play a "near perfect game" to take down this Duke squad. Tyrese Proctor is a lights out shooter, Khaman Malauch is a behemoth, and Cooper Flagg is a generational talent. Not to mention Kon Knueppel and the Blue Devils talented bench mob. Bet against Duke at your own peril.

No. 1 overall seed Auburn remains the class of a South Region that saw the No. 3 and 4 seeds bow out in the second round. Next up in the Sweet 16 is No. 5 seed Michigan, which plays far too many close games and turns the ball over way too much, but has still covered in five straight. No. 2 seed Michigan State had to scratch and claw its way past upstart New Mexico, and now gets an Ole Miss squad that blew out Iowa State.

The Tigers are the -135 favorite to win the South and go to the Final Four, although Michigan’s twin towers of Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf could be an issue for Auburn star Johni Broome inside. Should Auburn and sixth-seeded Ole Miss meet in the regional final in Atlanta, it would mark their fourth showdown this season—the last a five-point Tigers victory in the SEC tournament, where the Rebels covered as 12.5-point underdogs.

Top seed Florida rallied from a second-half deficit to eliminate two-time defending national champion Connecticut in the second round, and is now the -130 favorite to win the region and advance to the Final Four. The Gators are a 6.5-point favorite in the Sweet 16 over No. 4 seed Maryland, which soars into San Francisco after its buzzer-beating victory (that no-call travel notwithstanding) over No. 12 seed Colorado State.

Florida’s chances of reaching San Antonio were no doubt helped by 10th-seeded Arkansas, which eliminated a second-seeded St. John’s squad that was among the hottest teams in America. The Razorbacks are a 5.5-point underdog to No. 3 seed Texas Tech, which plays great defense and has quietly won both its tournament games so far by double digits. Florida has won 14 of its last 15 and covered 12 times over that span, and it’s tough to see that roll coming to an end.

As the second favorites on the National Championship odds board, Florida have been the second most popular bet since the tournament started. The Gators began March Madness with about 5.4% of all National Championship bets and that number has risen to 9.4% entering the Sweet 16.

The top-seeded Blue Devils rolled through their first two tournament games thanks in part to the return of star freshman Cooper Flagg—who came back from an ankle sprain suffered in the ACC tournament to average 25.5 minutes and 16 points through the opening two rounds. Duke is a healthy -170 to reach the Final Four, and an 8.5-point favorite in the Sweet 16 over an Arizona team it beat by 14 in Tucson in November.

No. 2 seed Alabama handled St. Mary’s in the second round and is a 4.5-point favorite over No. 6 seed BYU, whose only loss since early February has been to Houston. The Cougars have covered in 10 of 12 games over that span, which included their two-point victory over No. 3 seed Wisconsin as a 1-point underdog. But Duke remains the overwhelming favorite in Newark—and let’s not forget that the Blue Devils have now won and covered in the past nine games in which Flagg has been healthy.

The top teams have been head and shoulders above everyone else all season, a big reason this tournament has been so chalky to this point. That’s certainly the case in the Midwest, in which the top four seeds all advanced to the Sweet 16. Houston is the -130 favorite to reach the Final Four, although the Cougars had to claw past No. 8 seed Gonzaga in the final minute in the second round. And the regional location in Indianapolis does Houston no favors: next up in is 8.5-point underdog Purdue, which is playing in its home state.

And Houston also faces the prospect of playing Kentucky in a regional final in a city just a few hours’ drive from the Bluegrass State. Tennessee is a 4.5-point favorite over the Wildcats in the Sweet 16, but Kentucky was completely immune to that Vols defense in two wins over their SEC rival this season. Big Blue Nation could own Indy this weekend, in more ways than one.

Houston is the third most popular National Championship bet. However, the Cougars aren't seeing nearly the same volume as Duke and Florida. But, all that could change with a statement victory over Purdue in the Sweet 16.

With their 2024 March Madness win, UConn is the only three-time champion in the last ten years. Coincidentally, the Huskies have the longest odds to win a championship on this list. In 2014, they had the 14th-longest college basketball las vegas odds at +6500 and in 2023 they had the 28th-longest odds at +8000. As you know, they won both times, so disrespect UConn at your own peril.

Holding the league record for March Madness titles and longest win streak (seven years), the UCLA Bruins are the clearcut college ball champion. I mean, the John R. Wooden Award for Player of the Year is named after their head coach during that insane streak – what more of a legacy could you ask for?

Trailing UCLA are the Kentucky Wildcats and UNC’s Tar Heels with an impressive eight and six titles respectively – this year, UCLA is further down the odds list than either of these teams. It’ll be a few years before they can be dethroned, but there are undoubtedly expectations for UCLA to keep producing and earn their first title since 1995.

March Madness Betting Trends

Finding trends and patterns in bets is our specialty -- if you want to be a great handicapper, it should be yours too! We've come to know the NCAA's National Championship as a chaotic and exciting event where anyone can walk away with a title, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few trends to keep your eye on. Before placing a March Madness futures wager, check out these betting trends:

  • Conference-wise, the Big East has been on a bit of a tear, claiming 4/10 of the last NCAA titles -- the ACC isn't far behind at three in the last ten, and a Big 12 team has won in the previous two-straight years.
  • In the last three years, 12th seeds have had the 5th seeds' number in the first round -- they're 6-6 on the moneyline and 8-4 against the spread.
  • Underdogs perform well in the first round, plain and simple. They're 122-97-2 ATS since 2015, and almost half of those teams finished those games with a straight-up win.
  • Fading the public holds true in March Madness -- since 2016, teams that held 60% of spread bets have ended up going a cumulative 56-80-5 ATS.

How to Bet on March Madness

Betting on March Madness has become increasingly popular for even the most casual of college ball fans. The most common option for the tournament is selecting the overall winner by making a March Madness futures bet – nice and simple, all you have to do is pick the correct 1/68. Easy, right? There are other options for futures too, like selecting the Final Four or individual conference winners.

Of course, when the actual tournament is going on, it’ll be a free-for-all just like the regular season. Each game will have its moneylines, spreads, totals and props – if you need a refresher on how to bet on college basketball, take a look at our guide and review a few key handicapping tools like NCAAB computer picks and public consensus data.

Where to bet on the March Madness

March Madness and betting are synonymous – even your coworkers and elderly neighbors are in a pool to predict the winner. Because of that popularity, you’ll find March Madness odds and matchups available at any major sportsbook under the NCAAB section.

Understanding The Odds To Win The College Basketball National Championship

If you’re interested in March Madness futures odds, you’re likely looking to bet on the outright winner of the tournament. Like the odds table at the top of the page, odds will usually look like this:

  • Gonzaga +200
  • Baylor +750
  • Kansas +1000
  • UCLA +2500

These odds tell you the likelihood and corresponding payout of one of these teams winning a national championship. Unlike a moneyline bet, where there is a clear favorite represented by a minus sign (-), the team with the lowest odds would be the favorite. In our example, it’s Gonzaga, and the rest are underdogs even though each team has a plus sign (+) prefacing its odds.

If you were to bet $100 on the Gonzaga Bulldogs and they won, your sportsbook would reward you with $200 in profit for a $300 total win. Betting on a long-shot winner like UCLA at +2500 would earn you $2500 on that same bet – the profits are much higher the further you go down the table, but so is the risk.

To see how much you’d win on these college basketball futures odds, check out our Odds Calculator. It’ll show you what your payout would be based on the odds and amount wagered. Don’t forget you can also make selections on which teams will make the Final Four, who will win each conference, and which player will take home the John R. Wooden Award for Player of the Year in the regular season.
