With awards season getting underway the sportsbooks have released their early odds to win the top prizes at the 2014 Academy Awards, with 12 Years a Slave considered the top contender on the Oscars betting lines.
12 Years a Slave opened as the 2/3 favorite on the 86th Academy Awards odds at Sportsbook to win Best Picture at the ceremony on Sunday, March 2, with Steve McQueen the 5/4 co-favorite to win Best Director, and Chiwetel Ejiofor the 3/2 favorite to win Best Actor.
Gravity is then next at 7/2 on those Oscars odds to win Best Picture, with the film's director Alfonso Cuaron tied with McQueen at 5/4 odds to win Best Director at Sportsbook. Sandra Bullock sits second at 3/1 behind Cate Blanchett (1/3) on the odds to win Best Actress in March. Blanchett is a potential Sportsbook for Blue Jasmine.
Rounding out the top early Oscar odds to win Best Picture at Sportsbook are American Hustle at 4/1, Saving Mr. Banks at 10/1, Captain Phillips at 16/1, and each of Blue Jasmine and The Wolf of Wall Street at 25/1.
American Hustle director David O. Russell is at 4/1 to win the top directing prize at the Oscars, with Martin Scorsese at 10/1 for The Wolf of Wall Street. Woody Allen is back at 50/1 odds to win Best Director for his work on Blue Jasmine.
Matthew McConaughey sits at 5/1 to win Best Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, behind 7/4 Robert Redford for All is Lost and ahead of 7/1 Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips.
