Mike Evans Free Agency Odds: Are Texans Evans' Next Team?

Mike Evans had a massive 2023 season, setting himself up for a hefty pay-day this summer. While Mike Evans free agency odds indicate he may stay in Tampa Bay, there will be plenty of other teams interested in his services.

I'll break down where Evans will go this NFL offseason and what he brings to teams below.

The Buccaneers are favored to keep Evans around, because they have some significant leverage here. While the Bucs are in a bit of a retool right now, they can still drop a $22 million franchise tag on the receiver, allowing them to work on a long-term deal or trade Evans to another team for picks/assets.

While I think a franchise tag is likely, I don't think Evans will sign it and I don't think it'll lead to an extension in Tampa. Even though they carved out a playoff spot with Baker Mayfield at QB last year, the Buccaneers have to start thinking about the future eventually. This offseason is a good pivot point. So, if another team signs or trades for Evans, who will it be?

What Mike Evans Brings

Evans is a deep-ball threat and a huge target in the red zone, making him a great fit for basically any passing offense. He may not have elite catch rates, but he gets down field and hauls in contested targets, surpassing 1,000 yards with ease.

He's been pretty healthy and consistent in recent years, too, which makes betting on Evans at 30 years old a bit easier for teams.

Evans Next Team Pick: Houston Texans

I do think the Kansas City Chiefs are going to be interested in Evans here, but I think the Texans are the best fit.

CJ Stroud led the young revolution in Houston last year, getting the Texans back to being fun and making the playoffs. And now, Houston has winning aspirations and some of the most cap space in the NFL. They certainly have some needs on the defensive secondary, but splashing on Evans to play out wide with Nico Collins, sliding Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz inside, would make Houston's passing attack arguably the best in football.

The combination of fit, money to spend, and desire to win make the Texans my pick to land Mike Evans.
