We are finally getting the Bengals-Steelers rematch we’ve been waiting for since the Vontaze Burfict meltdown that resulted in Pittsburgh eliminating Cincinnati in the wild-card round of last year’s playoffs. The OddsShark Super Computer predicts that the Steelers will follow up their playoff win with a 23.8-16.6 victory and start their season 2-0.
The Bengals also got their season off to a 1-0 start when they edged the Jets by one point in New York in Week 1. Pittsburgh opened as the -3 favorite and according to the computer will cover easily and win by a little more than a touchdown. The Steelers pretty much scored at will in their opener on Monday night but should expect a closer contest from their division rivals they are expected to compete against for the 2016 AFC North crown.
Tightest Matchup
The Falcons and Raiders have been predicted to have the closest game of any on the 16-game slate; the computer has calculated a result of 22.2-22.1 in favor of Oakland. Obviously, there are no tenths of points in football but what we can draw from this is that these teams match up well.
The Raiders showcased their high-octane offense against the Saints last week and are expected to have a much better defense than what they illustrated in Week 1. The Raiders opened as -4.5 favorites and the trends are pointing in their direction as the favored team has won five straight games in this matchup.
Where’s The Money?
Not looking like a good weekend for underdogs. The computer is predicting just seven dogs to cover the spread but does have the Vikings, Rams and Bills, who are all laying points at home, to actually win their games straight up.
Of the dogs predicted to win, the Rams are laying the most points and will be offering the most juice for moneyline bettors. There is the possibility that the computer is assigning too much value to the Rams after they beat the Seahawks twice last season, though, so bettors beware in this one.
Biggest Blowouts This Weekend
The computer expects the Bills to have the most success this weekend as it’s predicted the underdogs will slap the J-E-T-S 24.5-11.2. I have some serious doubts, however, that the Bills will be able to score over 20 points just a week after putting up just seven against the aging Ravens.
New York looked excellent in their opener against the Bengals but ended up on the wrong side of a one-point game. My advice – fade the computer on this pick.
