It feels like we have been watching the “will they, won’t they” saga of Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier for an eternity. The bitter rivals first met at UFC 182 on January 3, 2015. Since then, this rematch has been scheduled on two separate occasions, at UFC 197 and UFC 200, but neither materialized. So, here we are again, waiting to see if Jones vs Cormier II actually happens but this time it is scheduled for UFC 214.
When these two first met for the gold back at UFC 182, Jones was a -210 favorite with Cormier closing at +170. “Bones” was tabbed as a -340 fave at UFC 197 and then around the -270 range for fights with “DC”. Jones is now a -260 favorite for the UFC 214 bout according to Sportsbook.
Jones had the third-longest streak of title defenses in UFC history before being stripped of his title, with Bones defending his belt on eight consecutive occasions. He has a career record of 22-1, despite being just 29 years old, with the one loss coming by disqualification against Matt Hamill in 2010. Though his recent victory over Ovince Saint Preux was rather lackluster, Jones still has a legitimate claim to being the best fighter to ever enter the Octagon.
Cormier has parlayed his size and phenomenal wrestling pedigree into a 19-1 professional record. Specifically, since dropping down to light heavyweight, DC is 6-1 with three of those wins coming by submission.
