It’s official: CM Punk and Mickey Gall will face off in the former pro wrestler's MMA debut. Gall dispatched Mike Jackson with relative ease to set up the biggest fight of his young career against Phil Brooks. After Gall’s dominant performance and CM Punk’s lack of experience, the youngster from New Jersey has opened as a massive favorite.
Sportsbook opened Gall at -300 with Punk coming back at +235 as of February 9. However, within 24 hours the line had already seen big movements with Gall at -350 and Punk at +265.
Gall caught Dana White’s eye after winning his first professional match and calling out Punk. Gall has a combined 3:37 seconds in two pro fights, both coming by way of first-round rear naked choke.
Punk has gained notoriety when it was announced he signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC despite never training or competing in MMA in his life. It will be nearly a year and a half since the announcement when Punk walks into the octagon for the first time in his life. The former WWE Champion has been training at Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee, a gym that is also home to Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren.
After being delayed on several occasions, the bout has been added to UFC 203 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on September 10. When the fight was officially announced - again - Gall was listed at -300.
