Pitcher Money Lost

The worst pitcher to bet on in Major League Baseball this year might surprise you. It might be a solid starter, who happens to have struggled with his form lately or had been the victim of poor run support. It’s Rick Vaughn and he hasn’t been the same since he was traded from the Indians to the Pirates. The Wild Thing is more like Mediocre Thing these days. Ok, this isn’t real but that’s usually how it is.

To help you with your handicapping, our Pitcher Money Lost charts incorporate data that factors into making the same $100 wager on the pitcher for each start, no matter what the odds are.

Pitcher Charts

The Cy Young Award candidate might be one of the worst pitchers to bet on the season. How can that be?

If he is a solid pitcher, or on a popular team, he is probably favored every time he starts. When he wins, your profit on that victory is smaller than if you bet on a pitcher on an underdog team. Meanwhile, every time he loses, your bankroll shrinks like a wool sweater in the dryer. A good example of this would be Clayton Kershaw who often finds himself as a favorite in the -300 range.

It can also mean that the mediocre pitcher with the 7-11 record has been a better bet because he pays out a bigger profit on the games he wins because he is an underdog. For any bet you would make, it’s important to remember that the underdog is always the riskier bet but the payouts will be higher if you win. It’s like a flu shot. You don’t want to get one because you’re scared of needles but you know getting the flu is worth the risk.

If you’re looking for an edge this baseball season, use our Pitcher Run Support charts. You’ll be able to see what happens when a Cy Young candidate plays on a team with no offense, giving him little run support. Even though he’s in the running for the Cy Young, he’ll probably lose some games that he should be winning. Lil Run Support would make a good rap name.

Pitchers Who Win Money

If you don’t see your favorite pitchers on the Money Lost list, it means he doesn’t suck as much as you thought. Just kidding. It means he’s on the Money Won list.

Starting pitchers should be your biggest handicapping consideration when you bet on baseball. You can also visit our umpire stats page to find out if the home plate ump for tonight’s game is prone to calling more walks than strikeouts which will also impact a pitcher’s chances of winning.

Once you know which pitchers traditionally cash on the moneyline, you’ll be able to make educated wagers.
