Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Early action on Alabama has bumped the Crimson Tide up slightly from their Sportsbook line at -20 to Alabama -20.5. The movement on the total has been far greater, moving from its opener of 64 points all the way down to 61.5 points as early bettors pounded the UNDER. The OVER is 5-0 in Alabama’s last five road games against Tennessee.

Alabama News & Notes

The Crimson Tide appeared to be locked into a shootout with the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday when they entered halftime trailing 24-20. But Nick Saban’s group made some halftime adjustments and dominated the second half 21-0, picking up an impressive 41-24 win as 6-point favorites over the Bulldogs to take a stranglehold on the SEC West.

Mac Jones had 417 passing yards and four passing touchdowns in the win while Najee Harris racked up 152 rushing yards and a touchdown. This dynamic duo has led Alabama’s offense to an impressive 561.3 total yards per game (fifth best in the nation) and 48.5 points per game (second best in the nation).

Jones has quieted any concerns about Tua Tagovailoa’s departure with an impressive campaign to date, passing for 1,518 yards with 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions through Alabama’s first four games.

Tennessee News & Notes

Tennessee opened its season with back-to-back wins over the South Carolina Gamecocks and Missouri Tigers, building on the momentum of a 6-0 SU run to finish off the 2019 season.

But since that hot start, the Volunteers have gone 0-2 SU and ATS with back-to-back blowout losses to the Georgia Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats. Last Saturday’s 34-7 loss to Kentucky came at home as a 6.5-point favorite.

After outscoring their first two opponents 66-39 and then being outscored 78-28 by their last two opponents, it’s difficult to determine what bettors should expect from the Volunteers the rest of the way. But if they are going to rebound, it isn’t likely to happen this week against an Alabama team that has dominated Tennessee for a decade and a half.

Tennessee has lost each of its last 13 games against Alabama and has lost its last four games in this series by an average of 34 points.

Betting Pick: Alabama -20.5

The Volunteers haven’t shown us enough over the last two weeks to make us believe that this is the year they turn their luck around against Alabama. Look for the Crimson Tide to continue their dominance on offense and to do enough on defense to cover the spread.
