Flames’ 11-Game Home Win Streak Snapped By Habs

The Flames had an 11-game home winning streak snapped on Thursday as they fell 5-4 to the Montreal Canadiens in overtime. Elias Lindholm (1-0-1) scored the game-tying goal with just 28 seconds remaining in regulation to get the Flames to overtime, but Ben Chiarot (2-1-3) netted the overtime Sportsbook for the Habs in a rare multi-goal effort for the defenseman. Andrew Mangiapane (1-2-3) led Calgary with three points while Mike Hoffman (1-3-4) topped Montreal with four points.

Calgary has been the NHL’s hottest team since January 29 – the day they started a 10-game win streak. Since then, the Flames are 12-1-1, boasting three more wins than the next closest teams and four more points than anyone else over that span.

Colorado’s Four-Game Win Streak Halted By Arizona

The Avalanche also fell to a much weaker opponent in their last outing as they lost 2-1 to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday. Devon Toews scored the lone goal for the Avs while Loui Eriksson and Nick Schmaltz each tallied for the Coyotes to pick up a rare victory. Karel Vejmelka made 42 saves to earn the win while Pavel Francouz stopped 27 shots in the loss.

While Calgary’s run over the past month and change has been impressive, Colorado has been just as good over an even longer stretch. The Avs are 23-3-2 since the calendar flipped to 2022, with four more wins and eight more points than the Boston Bruins, who are the next closest club in both categories.

Valeri Nichushkin (upper body) is questionable for Saturday’s contest.

Flames vs Avalanche Pick & Insights

Flames: Keys to Victory

Calgary has stepped up both offensively and defensively during this hot stretch, but the key against Colorado will be keeping the puck out of their own net. The Flames boast the second-best defense in the league at just 2.45 goals against per game, thanks largely to goaltender Jacob Markstrom who’s posted a sterling .929 save percentage and 2.03 goals against average over his last 13 appearances.

Avalanche: Keys to Victory

Led by Nazem Kadri (68 points), Mikko Rantanen (65 points), and Cale Makar (59 points), Colorado owns the NHL’s second-best offense, generating 3.93 goals per game. It won’t be easy to fill the Flames’ net, who have allowed more than two goals just three times over their 12-1-1 run, but if anyone can score it’s the Avs.
