Oilers vs Flames Prediction & Odds: Calgary Looks For Win In Alberta Rivalry

The Edmonton Oilers (33-22-4) will look to make it three wins in a row this year in the Battle of Alberta when they visit the surging Calgary Flames (33-14-7) on Monday night. The Flames are certainly the hotter team going into the game, an added element to consider in making an Oilers vs Flames prediction.

Long List Of Injuries Hurting Edmonton Down The Stretch

The Oilers are only 5-4-1 in their last 10 but have beaten the Flames in their two previous meetings this season, spicing up the Oilers vs Flames prediction. Edmonton downed Calgary 5-2 in October and knocked off the Flames 5-3 on January 22 as Leon Draisaitl had two goals and a pair of assists.

The Oilers have lost two in a row and three of their last four and sit fourth in the Pacific Division, four points behind the third-place Vegas Golden Knights. They lost 5-2 to Montreal in their most recent outing Saturday as Draisaitl and Connor McDavid were held to three shots and one point, a Draisaitl assist.

While Draisaitl and McDavid sit tied atop the NHL scoring derby, the Oilers rank only 12th in the league with 181 goals. They are also 23rd in goals allowed and 26th in penalty-killing efficiency, numbers that reflect a club struggling to secure a playoff position.

Edmonton’s crowded injury list includes Zack Kassian, Jesse Puljujarvi, Kris Russell, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Tyson Barrie and Evan Bouchard, whose status for Monday is listed as day to day.

Calgary’s Home Form Difficult To Ignore

In a showdown Saturday between the two best teams in the Western Conference, the Flames emerged with a 4-3 triumph at Colorado on Johnny Gaudreau’s goal 37 seconds into overtime. Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk had three points each in the victory.

What’s more, the hard-fought win came with backup goaltender Dan Vladar between the pipes, leaving Jacob Markstrom fresh for the Battle of Alberta, which is another consideration in Calgary’s favor in the Oilers vs Flames prediction.

Unlike the Oilers, the Flames have a completely healthy lineup, which has been a factor in their recent strong play. They’ve opened up a four-point lead over Los Angeles at the top of the Pacific and have three games in hand on the Kings.

Calgary has given up a league-low 133 goals and has scored 188 times, eighth in the NHL, while posting a sterling 15-4-5 mark at home. The Flames have won 11 of their last 12 games at the Saddledome.

Oilers vs Flames Pick & Insights

Oilers: Keys To Victory

Dealing with a number of key absences, Edmonton will rely heavily on Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, which is hardly a new development. The Oilers live or die by this pair and considering they were quiet last time out against the Canadiens, they may be due for an offensive explosion.

Flames: Keys To Victory

One of the best defensive teams in the league has given up an uncharacteristic eight goals over its last two games. They must get back to their old ways to be a solid Oilers vs Flames pick. Gaudreau, Lindholm and Tkachuk made the difference against the Avs and will likely need to step up against the Oilers as well.
