2024 Wimbledon Betting Odds: Alcaraz Defends Title Over Djokovic

Entering the championship match as a -145 betting favorite, Carlos Alcaraz defended his Wimbledon title in a rematch against Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champ. Though a tie break was the deciding factor, the Spaniard took the finals in three-straight sets. The victory made him the sixth player in history to win on the clay at Roland Garros and the grass at Wimbledon in the same year.

2024 wimbledon betting odds and picks

With the semi-finals waiting, let's look at my latest Wimbledon picks:

djokovic not at a hundred-percent

After a meniscus tear in his knee at Roland Garros, Djokovic's odds slightly dropped from +275 to +370. The 37-year-old has enrolled in the tournament, making his 19th appearance, and projecting that he is feeling good.

He's already said he's aware the end of his career is looming and while I didn't expect Djokovic to be in the best shape, he's holding his own as the tournament circle becomes smaller, despite dropping two sets so far.

With Alex de Minaur withdrawing from the quarterfinals, Djokovic advanced straight to the semifinals, where he took down Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in three-straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 6-4).

Djokovic has been crowned the champion in London six times throughout the last decade. He has dropped a single set in his first two-round appearances.

carlos alcaraz Looking to defend wimbledon title (-145)

Winning it all in June's French Open and eager to defend his London title, Alcaraz is a spry force to be reckoned with. At +225 prior to taking the court, those were the shortest odds the 21-year-old has carried heading into the Wimbledon tournament, opening last year as a +350 contender.

Opening the tournament with a three-straight set win over Estonia's Mark Lajal. However, with seven aces and a tie-break in the first set, Alcaraz showed signs of struggle against a powerful serve. Then, he continued struggling against No. 29 Tiafoe in the third round. His American opponent was able to force five sets before Alcaraz took the dub (5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2).

Alcaraz has overcome plenty of adversity this tournament, dropping at least a set in every match since the third round.

But, it's been a couple of years of watching the Spaniard showcase his abilities against legendary competitors, defeating Djokovic in two of three meetings and recording a win against Nadal. Where there's a will, Alcaraz finds a way.

Unable to dodge Djokovic's generational dominance, no other player has been able to accomplish back-to-back Wimbledon titles aside from the Serbian.

Defending Women's Champion Defeated In First Round

Unranked during her Wimbledon win last year and opening as a +10000 longshot, No. 6 Marketa Vondrousova stunned Ons Jabeur in two straight sets.

Keeping up with tradition as the defending champion, the 24-year-old took to centre court. She was upset in two straight sets by Spain's Jessica Bouzas.

Since the turn of the century, we've only seen three occasions of a player earning consecutive titles on the women's court -- and both ladies' surnames were Williams.

womens wimbledon odds feature two new faces

Entering the semifinals at +1500 to win the tournament, Krejcikova's odds have surged to place her as the favorite against No. 7 Jasmine Paolini. Neither lady has appeared in a Wimbledon final before, each looking to hoist their first Venus Rosewater Dish.

Both have met just once before in 2018 at the Australian Open, where Krejcikova won in straight sets. But, that was forever ago.

The Czech has sprung out of nowhere, managing a back injury most of the season and not being a threat on anyones radar. Dropping just two sets on the grass this year and upsetting three-straight ranked players, the 28-year-old is laser focused on the court.

However, Paolini is in the midst of making her country proud. Facing only two ranked opponents, each lower than her and including a No. 12 Madison Keys walkover, there's room to say Paolini hasn't been tested as much. But the Italian has grit, planting herself the finals, after defeating Donna Vekic in the longest semifinal in Wimbledon history (2 hrs, 51 mins). At 5-foot-4, Paolini is quick on the court and can dig to get those returns.

At plus-money, Paolini's aggression and persistency is worth a sprinkle. This is a matchup nobody saw coming, might as well continue riding the trend of the underdog.
