Odds as of June 28

Using our odds calculator, Lopez's -900 favorite status means a $100 bet on him to win pays out $111.11. The same bet on Claggett pays out $650. Additionally, if you’re unfamiliar with betting on boxing, we have you covered with an in-depth How to Bet Boxing guide.

How Lopez Wins

Lopez is an athletic, well-rounded boxer, known more for offense than defense. He scored a massive upset win over Vasyl Lomachenko in 2020 as a +300 underdog, sending his career upward.

The 26-year-old has improved his fight IQ, pairing that skillset with an excellent counter-punching ability that helps him land before opponents and score big on the judges' scorecards.

As far as betting for this fight, I'd lean toward betting Lopez to win by decision. While he has decent pop in his punches, Lopez has one knockout in his last six fights (5-1 record during that span). Claggett also has just one KO loss on his record from way back in 2011.

How Claggett Wins

Some boxing pundits consider Lopez a "paper champion," given some of his struggles against recent opponents. Still, Teofimo has emerged victorious. But Claggett could be ripe for a "Canadian Rocky story."

The Calgary native is a brawler. He'll confidently stand in front of Lopez and trade with all his might. Now this could make Lopez look very good, as the champ can pick Claggett apart on a good day, but it could also put Lopez on his heels. The Canadian is known for his pursuit and body work.

That said, Claggett hasn't really fought elite competition. He'll face a different animal vs Lopez. If you're keen on Claggett, there's no reason to bet anything other than his ML value at +550.

Teofimo Lopez vs Steve Claggett Pick

The odds would suggest it's likelier Lopez wins by KO (-138), but I'm not feeling it. Maybe it's my Canadian bias or the fact that Claggett hasn't lost by KO in 13 years.

While Lopez is far more skilled, I'm counting on this bout going the distance, with the champ retaining his belt via the judges' scorecards.

Pick: Lopez by decision (+150)
