It’s Sportsbook Day in MLB! What else do you really need? If college basketball is the answer, the guys have you covered as well with picks for both Final Four games.
In the AL West, the Oakland A’s and Houston Astros begin the season against each other. Zack Greinke gets the nod for the ’Stros and the A’s counter with Chris Bassitt. It feels like we know what we’re getting with Oakland each season: a solid team. The A’s went 26-14 in the AL West last season and will look to pick up where they left off. Joe is betting on the moneyline here.
In Seattle, the Mariners host the San Francisco Giants in an interleague game to kick off the campaign. Seattle seems to be on its way up with a young group of up-and-comers. This matchup seems very tight on paper, but Joe has a couple of key stats to back his bet.
Looking at the NBA board today, Joe found a total he’s betting. The Philadelphia 76ers are on the road to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 76ers find themselves just a half-game out of first place in the Eastern Conference but do have a game in hand. They’re only surrendering 109.4 points per game, which is the seventh-fewest in the NBA.
We’re down to the Final Four in college hoops and Iain has a pick for both games starting with Baylor vs Houston. The Bears overcame a little hiccup late in the season to march through the South Region and advance to the Final Four for the first time since 1950. Iain is looking at the spread for his bet.
The other matchup in the Final Four is the Cinderella UCLA Bruins against the Goliath of the tourney, Gonzaga. The Bulldogs have steamrolled their way to the semifinal, easily disposing of their opponents. They are double-digit favorites against a UCLA team that was almost eliminated in the play-in game. Iain will be looking at the spread for his bet on this game.
The defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays open their season on the road against their interstate rival, the Miami Marlins. The Rays send Tyler Glasnow to the mound with the Marlins countering with Sandy Alcantara. The Marlins were a bit of a darling last season, making the playoffs in a season in which nobody gave them a chance. Ninja is looking at a moneyline play on this game.
It wouldn’t be Guys & Bets without a player prop bet. Ninja has one for arguably the biggest name in baseball, Fernando Tatis Jr. The Padres have high expectations this season with a few major offseason moves. Tatis is the face of the franchise and a hot start is what we’re expecting here.
