As a seven-time Sportsbook of the Championships at Wimbledon, it’s no surprise that the renewed Roger Federer is putting on a master class at the All England Club this year. He’ll take on Tomas Berdych in the semifinals of the grassy Grand Slam on Friday and he’ll do it as an enormous favorite.
Top seeds have been dropping left and right the last few rounds but Rog has been in complete control the entire tournament and it would be a massive shock if he were to be knocked off by Berdych. Sportsbook agrees and has made Fed the -800 moneyline favorite for the match.
The two men have seen plenty of each other over the years as this will be their 25th meeting on tour but it’s the Swiss star who holds the 18-6 advantage in the career head-to-head numbers. A 19th professional win against the Czech vet will put Federer in his ninth Wimbledon final and it will give him a chance to win the title for a record eighth time.
Something to consider here, however, is that Berdych was the man who ended Fed’s streak of seven trips to the finals at Wimbledon back in 2010 and he’s being offered at a price of +550 for Friday’s meeting.
Although he probably won’t win the match – or even a set – that’s an attractive price given the history for those reaching to find value.
