Eddie Alvarez is set to defend his UFC lightweight title at UFC 205 against Conor McGregor in one of the biggest matchups in recent MMA history. Alvarez has deemed himself the “underground king" of the UFC and he has a point.
Alvarez has closed as an underdog in each of his past five fights – four with the UFC and one with Bellator. The Philadelphia native is 4-1 in those five bouts with three of those victories coming with Alvarez as a +185 underdog or higher.
If you had wagered $100 on each of Alvarez’ past five fights, you would be up a stellar $850. Even in his last two bouts, you could have made a healthy profit of $460, as he was a +215 underdog against Rafael dos Anjos and a +245 dog against Anthony Pettis.
Eddie’s next fight comes against Conor McGregor at UFC 205. The Irishman will look to become the first UFC fighter in history to hold two title belts simultaneously. Alvarez’ line opened with the defending champion at +130 – which could be his sixth consecutive fight as an underdog.
