How Dern Wins
Dern's foray to victory comes from her jiu-jitsu background. The Brazilian is by far the better grappler, but she needs to drag this fight to the mat before Hill can rack up any damage on the feet.
Once this bout hits the canvas, it's a wrap for Dern, but she might have a little trouble getting there. In true BJJ fashion, Dern prefers to accept back position instead of gunning for takedowns (which she has landed at just 11% in her UFC career). Her greatest challenge in this fight will be to find ways to use her jiu-jitsu creatively.
How Hill Wins
"Overkill" is not a good fighter, but she's squeaked out two underdog wins in her last bouts vs Emily Ducote (+105) and Lupita Godinez (+280). The American is quick but hits very softly, which guarantees any victory on her end will come by decision.
The longer this fight goes, the better it is for Hill. But if she wants to win, she'll need to fend off submission attempts. The 38-year-old has two UFC losses by submission, and there's no doubt Dern will look to tap her out Saturday.
