UFC 276: Adesanya vs Cannonier Betting Notes

Israel Adesanya will be looking to remain undefeated when fighting as a middleweight, and to extend his pro MMA record to 23-1-0. The champion is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 271, which marked his first contest since June 2021.

Currently the No. 2 contender in the UFC middleweight division, Cannonier also last appeared at UFC 271 where he ended Derek Brunson’s evening with a second-round KO that also earned him his second Performance of the Night bonus in four outings.

UFC 276: Adesanya vs Cannonier Odds

Adesanya has continued to make gains at the sportsbooks as the countdown to UFC 276 continues. “The Last Stylebender” has vaulted to a -500 favorite, well ahead of the -340 odds he sported in early May, while Cannonier has faded to +350.

That means Adesanya backers must wager $500 to generate winnings of $100, while a successful $100 bet on Cannonier will result in a $350 payday.

According to our sports betting calculator, Adesanya’s short odds translate to an implied win probability of 83.33 percent, while Cannonier’s betting line translates to an implied win probability of just 22.22 percent.

Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier Odds & Pick

FighterOdds
Israel Adesanya-500
Jared Cannonier+350

Israel Adesanya (-500) has enjoyed considerable support at the sportsbooks during his steady rise to the top of the 185-pound division. The Last Stylebender has been regularly pegged as betting chalk since joining the UFC four years ago and has sported odds of -250 or shorter in eight of his 12 UFC contests.

Conversely, Cannonier (+350) has struggled to win over sports bettors. “Killa Gorilla” was pegged as a relatively slim favorite in his recent wins over Kelvin Gastelum and Derek Brunson, and endured a stretch of five fights in which he was pegged as a betting underdog on four occasions, including wins over Jack Hermansson and David Branch while sporting average odds of +243.

Adesanya: Need To Knows
  • Adesanya maintains a perch at No. 3 on the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, thanks to an unblemished 22-0 record as a middleweight. The only loss of his career came in his bid for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 259, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Jan Blachowicz.
  • A feared power puncher early in his career, Adesanya has regularly gone the distance of late, with eight of his past 11 contests decided by the judges. That has provided him with ample opportunity to pile up 12 knockdowns, positioning him second all-time among UFC middleweights, trailing only Anderson Silva.
  • However, Adesanya has struggled to defend against takedown attempts in recent outings, with opponents putting him on the mat on 11 total occasions over his past three Octagon appearances.
  • Cannonier is not expected to be a serious takedown threat, but backers of the Last Stylebender must be concerned about his inability to dominate in his recent rematch with Robert Whittaker.
  • Adesanya’s last three fights were Robert Whittaker (win – unanimous decision), Marvin Vettori (win – unanimous decision) and Jan Blachowicz (loss – unanimous decision).
Cannonier: Need To Knows
  • Jared Cannonier has demonstrated impressive versatility since making his middleweight debut, going 5-1-0 in six fights, with four of those victories coming by KO/TKO.
  • Indeed, there is no doubting Killa Gorilla’s punching power. Cannonier has posted 10 of his 15 career wins by knockout, with nine of those victories coming inside two rounds.
  • Cannonier has also evolved into a skilled defender against both significant strikes and takedowns, and has effectively used his ability to change up between an orthodox and southpaw to dictate the rules of engagement.
  • The 38-year-old American must overcome a sizable 2.5-inch reach disadvantage but is well-positioned to give Adesanya all he can handle if he can get in close to the champion and turn their clash into a street fight.
  • Cannonier’s last three fights were Derek Brunson (win – KO), Kelvin Gastelum (win – unanimous decision) and Robert Whittaker (loss – unanimous decision).

Prediction: Cannonier (+350); UNDER 4.5 Rounds (-115)

Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway 3 Odds & Pick

FighterOdds
Alexander Volkanovski-210
Max Holloway+165

The UFC 276 co-main event features an epic trilogy matchup as Alexander Volkanovski (-210) once again defends his UFC featherweight title against former champion Max Holloway (+165).

Volkanovski ended Holloway’s lengthy reign as UFC featherweight champion with a unanimous-decision victory and followed up with a slender split-decision win in their first rematch at UFC 251 to extend a win streak that now stands at 21.

Volkanovski subsequently defended his crown with decisive wins over Brian Ortega and the Korean Zombie, while Holloway returns to action on the heels of unanimous-decision wins over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez that earned him back-to-back Fight of the Night bonuses.

Volkanovski: Need To Knows
  • “Alexander the Great” brings a strong background in Greco-Roman wrestling to the Octagon. Combined with his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and his experience as both a boxer and a kickboxer, the 33-year-old Australian is equipped to finish opponents standing up or on the mat.
  • Volkanovski ranks among the all-time leading UFC featherweights in significant strike accuracy, strikes landed and striking differential, and has earned 12 of his 24 career wins by KO/TKO.
  • He has also racked up seven total takedowns over his past three fights, including three in his second date with Holloway. However, it was his ability to outstrike Holloway that gave him the edge in each of his previous wins over “Blessed.”
  • Volkanovski’s last three fights were Chan Sung Jung (win – TKO punches), Brian Ortega (win – unanimous decision) and Max Holloway (win – split decision).
Holloway: Need To Knows
  • Blessed reigned at the top of the 145-pound division for three years before finally losing the UFC featherweight strap to Volkanovski in their first clash at UFC 245.
  • During his reign, the hard-hitting Hawaiian demonstrated the punching power that has made him the all-time leader among UFC featherweights with 10 finishes and eight KO/TKO wins, tallying back-to-back TKO wins over Jose Aldo, followed by a TKO win over Brian Ortega.
  • Holloway maintained that dominance during his recent wins over Kattar and Rodriguez, whom he outstruck by a combined margin of 698-320.
  • However, Blessed has yet to make a breakthrough in his two slugfests with Volkanovski. Holloway dominated on the mat in his recent win over Rodriguez, successfully executing three takedowns and racking up 6:49 of control time.
  • Faced with the challenge of finding a way to avoid a third loss to Volkanovki, could Holloway be considering a similar approach against the champion, who enjoys a two-inch reach advantage?
  • Holloway’s last three fights were Yair Rodriguez (win – unanimous decision), Calvin Kattar (win – unanimous decision) and Alexander Volkanovski (loss – split decision).

Prediction: Max Holloway (+165); OVER 4.5 Rounds (-245)

Sean Strickland vs Alex Pereira Odds & Pick

FighterOdds
Sean Strickland-125
Alex Pereira-105

Winning streaks will be on the line when Alex Pereira (-105) tangles with Sean Strickland (-125) in the first of two middleweight matchups on the UFC 276 main card.

Undefeated as a middleweight, Strickland will be gunning for a seventh straight win, while Pereira has tallied five straight victories since Sportsbook his pro MMA career with a loss almost seven years ago.

Strickland: Need To Knows
  • “Tarzan” has shown no ill effects of a 2018 motorcycle accident that put him on the shelf for two years. The 31-year-old American has posted five straight wins, all against middleweight opponents, since recovering from his injuries, capped by a narrow split-decision win over Jack Hermansson last time out in the main event at UFC Vegas 47.
  • Strickland has posted 10 of his 25 career wins by KO/TKO, and sits among the all-time leaders at 185 pounds in strikes landed per minute and significant strike defense.
  • He also possesses the ability to take the action to the mat, demonstrated by his four successful takedowns and 7:02 of control in a dominating five-round unanimous-decision win over Uriah Hall last summer at UFC Vegas 33.
  • Strickland’s last three fights were Jack Hermansson (win – split decision), Uriah Hall (win – unanimous decision) and Krzysztof Jotko (win – unanimous decision).
Pereira: Need To Knows
  • Pereira has enjoyed steady success since returning to MMA after a four-year absence. Overall, “Poatan” now sports a 5-1-0 pro MMA record after earning a unanimous-decision win over Bruno Silva in his first-ever MMA clash to go the distance.
  • Pereira is also an accomplished kickboxer. The 24-year-old Brazilian previously held the Glory middleweight and light heavyweight titles, and sports a 33-7 pro kickboxing record that features 21 KO wins.
  • Poatan’s striking ability was key to his two wins in the UFC Octagon. However, his struggles to defend against takedowns were exposed while being taken to the mat on four total occasions in his recent dates with Bruno Silva and Andreas Michailidis.
  • Pereira’s last three fights were Bruno Silva (win – unanimous decision), Andreas Michailidis (win – TKO) and Thomas Powell (win – KO).

Prediction: Sean Strickland (-125); OVER 1.5 Rounds (-170)

Robbie Lawler vs Bryan Barberena Odds & Pick

FighterOdds
Robbie Lawler-125
Bryan Barberena-105

After the Lauren Murphy vs Meisha Tate fight fell off the main card, the prelim bout between “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (-125) and Bryan “Bam Bam” Barberena (-105) was promoted. The former champ, Lawler, picked up his first win since 2017 when he finished Nick Diaz in September of last year, while Barberena finds himself on a winning streak for the first time since 2016.

Lawler: Need To Knows
  • “Ruthless” had dropped four straight fights prior to his victory in September that brought the vet’s record to 29-15 with one no contest. Among his 29 wins, 21 have come by knockout and eight of his losses have also been stoppages (three knockouts, five submissions).
  • The brawler had relentless pressure in his fight with Diaz, looking like his vintage self. He had strong head movement, though he did take some damage to the body. At times, he backs his foes up but doesn’t throw strikes until he’s backed down himself, essentially holding his ground.
  • Lawler’s last three fights were Colby Covington (loss – unanimous decision), Neil Magny (loss – unanimous decision) and Nick Diaz (win – TKO).
Barberena: Need To Knows
  • “Bam Bam” had a stretch in which he dropped five of eight fights, with a pair of two-fight winning streaks bookending that span. Overall, he carries a 17-8 record with 10 knockout wins and only three defeats coming by way of finish (two knockouts and a submission).
  • Like Lawler, don’t expect too many takedown attempts from Barberena, who averages just 0.17 takedowns per 15 minutes. He will likely be the faster of the two men but has a bad habit of backing up straight with his chin in the air.
  • Barberena’s last three fights were Jason Witt (loss – majority decision), Darian Weeks (win – unanimous decision) and Matt Brown (win – split decision).

Prediction: Robbie Lawler (-125); OVER 2.5 (-175)

Pedro Munhoz vs Sean O’Malley Odds & Pick

FighterOdds
Pedro Munhoz+220
Sean O’Malley-300

A highly anticipated clash between ranked bantamweights kicks off the UFC 276 main card, as Pedro Munhoz (+220) tangles with Sean O’Malley (-300). Munhoz clings to the No. 10 spot on the UFC rankings despite losing four of his past five fights. O’Malley has vaulted to No. 13 during his current three-fight win streak.

Munhoz: Need To Knows
  • While Munhoz has struggled in recent Octagon appearances, his four most recent defeats have come against top-flight opponents, including Dominick Cruz, Jose Also and Aljamain Sterling.
  • An eight-year UFC veteran, “The Young Punisher” sits among the UFC’s all-time leaders at 135 pounds in knockdowns and significant strikes landed, but has also absorbed an average of 6.9 significant strikes per minute.
  • Munhoz’s last three fights were Dominick Cruz (loss – unanimous decision), Jose Aldo (loss – unanimous decision) and Jimmie Rivera (win – unanimous decision).
O’Malley: Need To Knows
  • A power puncher, “Sugar” has finished opponents inside five minutes in nine of his 15 wins as a pro, capped by a crushing TKO win over Raulian Paiva last time out at UFC 269.
  • However, O’Malley’s lone defeat also came in the first round, a TKO loss to Marlon Vera just 4:40 into their date at UFC 252.
  • O’Malley’s last three fights were Raulian Paiva (win - TKO), Kris Moutinho (win – TKO) and Thomas Almeida (win – KO).

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz (+220); OVER 2.5 (-125)
