How Do UFC Fighters Who Miss Weight Perform?

Ever since the UFC implemented early weigh-ins, there has been a drastic increase in fighters failing to make weight. Through the first 18 months of early weigh-ins, a total of 51 fighters have missed weight or failed to weigh in, per Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie. The prior 18 months saw just 17 fighters do so.

There are plenty of reasons and theories why this has happened. Fighters have always been creatures of habit and disrupting this may have caused more problems than anyone expected. Maybe the need to weigh in during the morning hours has affected the fighters the night before and this has caused them to push their bodies too far. Of course, some will simply say it is happenstance and it will eventually correct itself.

But no matter what, fighters missing weight has become a regular occurrence in MMA news. Since the beginning of 2017, the UFC has held 48 events with 20 of those cards seeing fighters compete after failing to make weight.
