Collin Morikawa has the second biggest betting handle for the 2024 US Open

2024 U.S. Open Betting Action: All The Money On Scheffler, Morikawa

The 2024 U.S. Open gets underway on Thursday from Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina on Thursday. Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite at around +300 odds at sportsbooks, which represents the shortest odds for any golfer in a major since Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship. Woods had +180 odds to win that tournament, and finished as the runner up.

“It’s almost insane to be talking about his price at essentially 3-1,” one bookmaker told me this week. “I saw some spots lower than +300. In a major to have that price, we haven’t seen that since Tiger was in his prime and speaks to how dominant [Scheffler’s] been. From a betting perspective, despite his price people didn’t stop betting him last week at The Memorial. Last week, he had the highest handle and ticket count. Same thing for the U.S. Open this week. People have taken other golfers at higher numbers, but they always want to seem take a piece of Scheffler as well.”

At ESPN BET, Scheffler (+290) had the most bets (14.2%) and total dollars wagered on him (34.2%) of any golfer. Colin Morikawa (14-1) had the second-most bets (7.5%) and handle (6.8%) among golfers. Scheffler also had the most bets (25%) and dollars wagered (34%) at DraftKings Sportsbook among all U.S. Open golfers.

Bryson DeChambeau (20-1) is another popular choice at several sportsbooks, with either the second- or third-most wagers to win.

Interestingly, public bettors seem to finally be fading Tiger Woods (300-1) as only 2% of bettors at DraftKings wagered on him to win this week’s U.S. Open and Phil Mickelson is the most-bet golfer (vs. Woods) in his head-to-head matchup.
