Hawks Look To Stay Hot In Second Half Of The Season

The Hawks fell 125-114 to the Toronto Raptors on Friday, marking their second loss to Toronto in Atlanta’s last three games. De’Andre Hunter (23 points), John Collins (23 points), and Trae Young (22 points, 13 assists) each had impactful performances for the Hawks but were outdone by Pascal Siakam (33 points) and Fred VanVleet (26 points, 11 assists).

Young has had a fantastic season thus far for the Hawks, averaging 27.9 points per game – the third-best mark in the NBA. The point guard has been even better over Atlanta’s hot streak, posting 29.3 points per contest over his last 10 outings. At 25-27, the Hawks sit three games back of the Boston Celtics (29-25) for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, so they’ll need to keep rolling if they’re going to make a push for the playoffs.

Lou Williams (hamstring), Collins (heel), and Danilo Gallinari (hamstring) are all questionable for Sunday’s game.

Mavericks Contain Sixers To Get Back Into Win Column

The Mavs snapped a two-game skid with a 107-98 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday thanks to a triple-double performance from Luka Doncic who dropped 33 points, 15 assists, and 13 boards. Dallas had a strong defensive performance as it limited the red-hot Joel Embiid to just 27 points, while no other Philadelphia player scored more than 18.

Despite the Mavericks’ reputation as a strong defensive team, they’ve actually been a bit loose as of late, allowing 115.4 points per game in the five contests prior to Friday’s win. The win over the 76ers marked the first time that the Mavericks gave up fewer than 105 points since January 23, so they’ll want to get back to that tight defensive game to keep piling up the wins.

Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Sterling Brown (foot) are out while Maxi Kleber (knee) is questionable.

Hawks vs Mavericks Pick & Insights

Hawks: Keys to Cover

Atlanta’s fate in this matchup will likely depend on two things: how much support Young gets offensively and how well the Hawks can contain Doncic. We know the Hawks are an excellent offensive squad, averaging 111.8 points per game (6th) not only thanks to Young but also to the supporting cast around him. If Collins can’t go, they’ll need players like Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic to step up.

Mavericks: Keys to Cover

Doncic has scored 30-plus in four straight games, and in six of his last nine outings, so he should be good for another big performance against a weak defensive team in Atlanta. If the Mavericks can get back to their defensive roots again like they did on Friday and hold the Hawks to about 105 points or less, they should come out with the win.
