Hawks Offense Falls Short Against Thunder
The Hawks dropped their last game, falling 121-114 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went off for 35 points to lead Oklahoma City to the win, while Dejounte Murray (24 points) and Trae Young (23 points, 10 assists) were the top performers for Atlanta.
After finishing as one of the elite offenses in the NBA last season, the Hawks haven’t found a way to reproduce that magic so far this year. Young (27.6 points per game) and Murray (21.5 PPG) have done their jobs, but Atlanta has suffered some key injuries and hasn’t been able to keep up the pace. Depth has also been an issue – the Hawks had nine players average at least 10 points per game last year but that number is down to six this season.
Knicks Snap Two-Game Skid Vs Cavaliers
The Knicks got back into the win column on Sunday as they topped the Cleveland Cavaliers 92-81 in a low-scoring contest. Jalen Brunson had 23 points to lead the Knicks as four others finished in double digits, while Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 23 as well.
Speaking of depth – or lack thereof – the Knicks are in the same boat as the Hawks. Julius Randle (21.1 PPG), Brunson (21 PPG) and RJ Barrett (18.4 PPG) have been a solid trio for New York but the scoring falls off drastically from there as Immanuel Quickley (10 PPG) is the only other player to average 10-plus. Unsurprisingly, New York’s offense ranks 14th in the league right behind Atlanta.
Hawks Player Prop: Young OVER 26.5 Points (-135)
Young has had an impressive start to his season, averaging 27.6 points per game to lead Atlanta while ranking 11th in the NBA. The Hawks guard has also scored 27-plus in six of his last 11 games, so there’s a fair chance he hits the OVER on Wednesday.
Knicks Player Prop: Randle OVER 21.5 Points (-120)
Randle is averaging 21.1 points this season but that includes a slow start where he scored just 18.3 per contest in October. The Knicks’ top scorer has hit 22-plus in nine of his last 16 outings – pretty good odds he’ll hit the OVER in this one.
Hawks: Keys To Win
Even though their offense has been slow to start the season, the Hawks still possess more weapons than the Knicks. Bogdan Bogdanovic is one of those weapons, and he’s finally made his return to the lineup after offseason knee surgery. If Bogdanovic and others can offer some support for Atlanta’s top dogs, they’ll come out with the win.
Knicks: Keys To Win
The Knicks have just one win in their last six home games and that comes down to some abysmal defense, as the team has given up 126.8 points per game in the five losses. Unless New York tightens up defensively, they’ll likely lose another on home court.
