Atlanta News & Notes

Trae Young had an off-night offensively going only 6-for-17 from the floor and 1-for-5 from three-point range, but he still contributed 15 points and 13 assists in a 122-111 loss on the road against the Washington Wizards on Thursday night. John Collins led the team in scoring with 28 points and in rebounds with 12 in the loss.

Cam Reddish also recorded his second 20-point game of the season going 8-for-14 from the floor in 27 minutes off of the bench. Reddish is averaging a career high 16.2 points per game in his third season in the NBA. Trae Young is the face of this franchise, but all four of the team’s top four scorers (Young, Collins, Reddish and De’Andre Hunter) are 24-years-old or younger. This young core should keep Atlanta in postseason contention for years to come.

Philadelphia News & Notes

After being held to just 14 points and six rebounds in Philadelphia’s 112-99 loss on the road to the New York Knicks, Joel Embiid bounced back on Thursday with a dominant performance against the Detroit Pistons. Embiid recorded 30 points and 18 rebounds in the 110-102 victory. The 76ers scored the win but took a loss in the ATS column going off as 11-point favorites in that matchup.

This game against the Hawks is one that the 76ers have likely had circled on their calendars since the 2021-22 schedule was released. Philadelphia was favored in all seven of its games against the Hawks in the postseason last year but still wound up getting eliminated in Game 7 at home. Ben Simmons’ terrible performance in Game 7 and the criticism he received after it played a major role in his current issues with the team

How Atlanta Will Cover

Atlanta played poorly against the Wizards, but that was on the second night of a road back-to-back and the Hawks’ third game in four nights. A better defensive effort should be expected this Saturday and would put the Hawks in position to cover the spread or pick up an outright upset.

How Philadelphia Will Cover

Joel Embiid was playing at well under 100% last postseason as he played through a knee injury. Embiid will be in much better shape this Saturday and he, his teammates and this home crowd in Philadelphia should be fired up with revenge on the mind. The 76ers at their best are a tough team to beat.
