Celtics Defense Dominant During Current Run
Boston extended its win streak on Sunday with a 116-83 victory over the Orlando Magic. Jaylen Brown led the team with 26 points in just 29 minutes on the court as six Celtics finished in double digits in another dominant showing.
The Celtics have climbed up to eighth place in the Eastern Conference thanks to their five-game run, just behind the seventh-place Nets on win percentage and a half-game back of the sixth-place Toronto Raptors. Boston has relied on its stingy defense, allowing a minuscule 92.8 points per game over its last eight games – a 7-1 run.
P.J. Dozier (knee) is out.
Nets’ Skid Continues Without Harden And Durant
The Nets dropped another game on Sunday, losing 124-104 to the Denver Nuggets. Nikola Jokic posted a triple-double with 27 points, 12 boards and 10 assists for Denver. Kyrie Irving led Brooklyn with 27 points and 11 assists.
Brooklyn has simply been decimated by the injury bug of late with Kevin Durant (knee) going down in mid-January and now James Harden (hamstring) dealing with a nagging issue of his own. Durant is out for at least a few more weeks as it’s been reported he will miss the NBA All-Star Game on February 20, while Harden is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s contest after missing the last two games.
To make matters worse for the Nets, Irving will be unavailable for Tuesday’s game due to New York’s vaccine mandate while LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) is also out and Nic Claxton (hamstring) is questionable.
Celtics vs Nets Pick & Insights
Celtics: Keys To Cover
The Celtics have been playing lockdown defense of late and they should be poised for another excellent defensive game against the Nets, who will be without at least two of their three stars and three of their top five scorers. On the offensive side, Jayson Tatum and Brown have been solid over their last 10 outings, averaging 26.2 and 23.1 points respectively; look for them to lead Boston again in this one.
Nets: Keys To Cover
Things are looking pretty bleak for the Nets, who have lost eight straight and could come into Tuesday’s game without all three of their stars, pending Harden’s health. If he does play, it’s still hard to see how the Nets will keep it close unless he scores 35 or 40 points. If Harden’s out, that responsibility likely shifts to Patty Mills – not exactly an ideal situation for Brooklyn.
