Celtics Unravel In Fourth Quarter
The Celtics were right with the Warriors through three quarters, trailing 79-78 going into the final frame, but Golden State dominated the fourth to win 107-97 and knot the series at two games apiece. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 23 points and added 11 boards for a double-double while Jaylen Brown had 21 points.
Boston scored just 19 points in the final frame with its leading scorer, Tatum, managing just one basket in the quarter. The Celtics defense also came unraveled as the Warriors scored 17 of the final 20 points in the game to seal the victory.
Robert Williams (knee) is questionable for Game 5.
Curry Carries Warriors Back Into The Series
It’s been a constant theme throughout these playoffs but it was the Steph Curry show once again in Game 4. The two-time MVP scored 43 points – the third-highest scoring playoff game of his career – and added 10 rebounds to help his club tie the series. Klay Thompson scored 18 while Andrew Wiggins came up big with 17 points and 16 boards in 43 minutes of work.
To put into perspective how dominant Curry was on Friday, he outscored the rest of the Warriors starters 43-39 – talk about putting the team on your back. The star guard is now averaging 34.3 points per game in the series. Only three players have finished an NBA Finals with a higher points-per-game mark over the last 15 seasons: LeBron James (35.8 in 2015), Kevin Durant (35.2 in 2017) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (35.2 in 2021).
Andre Iguodala (knee) and Otto Porter Jr. (foot) are questionable.
Celtics vs Warriors Pick & Insights
Celtics: Keys To Cover
Boston has been extremely resilient in this postseason, holding a record of 7-0 following losses. The Celtics were also the first team to beat the Warriors at home in these playoffs so while history may be against them, it’s clear that they’re capable of bucking the trend. If they’re going to do it again, they’ll need their top guys to score while finding a way to limit Curry.
Warriors: Keys To Cover
It’s hard to ask for another 40-plus point effort from Curry, but based on his performance in this series it may not be that far-fetched. Along with dominance from Curry, Golden State has relied on second-half pushes, outscoring Boston 136-87 in the third quarter. If the Warriors can keep the first half close and have another late surge, they could take their first series lead.
