Celtics Lose Rematch Of Last Year’s Final

The Celtics had their three-game win streak snapped Saturday as they fell 123-107 to the Golden State Warriors. The Splash Brothers took over the game as Klay Thompson (34 points) and Steph Curry (32 points) scored half of Golden State’s points in the win. Jaylen Brown had 31 to lead Boston while Jayson Tatum had a quiet night with just 18 points.

Despite taking the loss in a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, Boston remains the top team in the standings, boasting the league’s best offense and a defense bordering on the top 10. If there is one thing to nitpick about for the C’s of late, it might be the play of Tatum, who is averaging 23.4 points per game in December after shooting 6-for-21 from the field on Saturday.

On the plus side, though, Brown has stepped up his game with nearly 30 points per contest this month, including three outings with 31 or more.

George Lifts Clips Past Wizards

The Clippers got back into the win column Saturday with a 114-107 victory over the Washington Wizards to finish off a four-game road trip. Paul George came up huge for the Clips with 36 points while five others finished in double digits for Los Angeles. Kyle Kuzma (35 points, 12 rebounds) and Kristaps Porzingis (30 points, 15 rebounds) each had big nights for Washington but didn’t get much help in the loss.

The Clips certainly boast a deep offense this year with seven players averaging 10-plus points per game, but their issue is a lack of high-end scoring. George (23.7 points per game) is the only player averaging more than 15 points, while Kawhi Leonard is way down at 11.6 as he finds his footing.

All of that has dropped Los Angeles to the bottom of the league’s offensive leaderboard, with the team scoring just 107.7 points per contest.

Celtics: Keys To Win

Boston’s top-ranked offense gives them a huge edge on paper and they should be looking to exploit Los Angeles’ weakness in possession. The Clippers have been poor offensively in part due to their lack of care with the ball – they rank 23rd in turnovers at 15.6 per game. The Celtics should be able to control the flow of the game and generate far more shots than the Clippers.

Clippers: Keys To Win

If the Clippers have one thing going for them, it’s their defense as they rank fourth in the NBA (109.2 points against per game). If they’re going to beat the Celtics, they’ll need to home in defensively and try to make this one a low-scoring game.
