Red-Hot Bucks Host Struggling Celtics
Milwaukee (28-14 SU, 20-22 ATS) is riding a season-high seven-game winning streak, including Monday’s 27-point victory over Indiana without Giannis Antetokounmpo in the lineup. Meanwhile, the Celtics (21-22, 19-24) fell back below .500 with Monday’s loss in Memphis and have dropped nine of their last 10 visits to Fiserv Forum.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Oddsmakers waited until Wednesday morning to post a line for this contest, due to Antetokounmpo’s uncertain status. When they finally did, bettors pounced on the opportunity to back the Bucks as a short favorite, betting Milwaukee up to -5 as of the time of writing.
Boston News & Notes
One day after routing Orlando in their first game following a team meeting, the Celtics suffered their fifth loss in seven games Monday in Memphis. Boston allowed 80 points in the paint and was outscored 15-9 in overtime in a 132-126 loss to the Grizzlies, falling to 1-9 SU in its last 10 road outings.
The Celts played the game without Jayson Tatum (illness), Tristan Thompson (COVID-19 protocols) and Kemba Walker (knee injury management), forcing coach Brad Stevens to play Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Jeff Teague for more than 39 minutes each.
Although Tatum and Walker are expected to return tonight, the heavy minutes Brown, Smart and Teague toiled vs Memphis could take their toll Wednesday as Boston plays for the sixth time in nine days.
Teague was the Celtics’ hot hand offensively against the Grizzlies, hitting 10 of his 12 shots from the field and finishing with a season-high 26 points. Brown added 27 points, one day after draining 10 three-pointers against the Magic.
Milwaukee News & Notes
The Bucks’ second-ranked offense took things to a new level Monday, ironically without Antetokounmpo in the lineup. Milwaukee blitzed the Pacers for 48 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a 140-113 win, stretching its winning streak to seven games. Milwaukee has scored at least 120 points in five of its last six games, going 5-1 to the OVER during that span.
Antetokounmpo sat out Monday’s contest with a left knee sprain and is questionable to suit up Wednesday vs the Celtics. Pat Connaughton started in place of the Greek Freak against Indiana and enjoyed his best outing of the season, drilling six of his seven shots from behind the arc on the way to a 20-point performance.
Hot shooting from behind the three-point line was contagious Monday as Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Bryn Forbes all hit at least four triples, helping Milwaukee go 24-for-39 from deep. The Bucks now rank fourth in the NBA in three-point percentage and fifth in successful treys.
Betting Pick: Bucks -5
Boston’s only win in its last 10 road games was against the woeful Rockets, and nine of the Celts’ last 10 losses away from home came by at least five points.
