Boston Squanders Game 5 With Fourth-Quarter Collapse

The Celtics fell 110-107 to the Bucks in Game 5 despite having plenty of chances to win. Boston was up by 14 points early in the fourth quarter and Marcus Smart was shut down on the Celtics’ last two possessions of the game as Milwaukee rallied to take the series lead. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 34 points while Jaylen Brown added 26.

Boston was playing a textbook playoff game through about 38 minutes, leading 93-79 with 10:19 to play. Per ESPN, the 14-point fourth-quarter collapse represented the Celtics’ biggest blown lead in the playoffs in more than 25 years – certainly not what we’re accustomed to seeing from a usually stingy Boston team.

Antetokounmpo, Holiday Help Bucks Take Series Lead

The Bucks got everything they needed for a big comeback win in Game 6, including a 40-point, 11-rebound performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo and a clutch fourth quarter from Jrue Holiday, who finished with 24 points. Holiday single-handedly shut down Boston’s last two attempts to tie the game, including swiping the ball from Smart to close out the contest.

Led by Bobby Portis and his 15 rebounds, Milwaukee dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Boston 49-36 overall and 17-5 on offense. The Bucks are now one win away from their third trip to the Eastern Conference final in the last four seasons with a chance to seal the deal on home court.

Boston was the much better team for 40 minutes in Game 5 – if they can replicate that effort for a full 48, the Celtics should even up the series on Friday. Tatum will need to be dominant again – the forward is averaging 24.8 points per game with back-to-back 30-point efforts.

Bucks: Keys To Cover

The Bucks have had to rely on other players to step up in the absence of Khris Middleton, and Holiday has been that guy on most nights. The guard is averaging 21.8 points per game against the Celtics, up more than five points from his first-round production, while also boasting an impressive defensive game with seven rebounds and 2.4 steals per contest. They’ll need another strong showing from Holiday to clinch the series in Game 6.
