Boston’s Dominant Defense Comes Up Big Again
The Celtics executed another perfect game plan on Sunday, beating the Atlanta Hawks 105-95. Jayson Tatum led all scorers with 38 points and added 10 boards for a double-double while four other players finished in double digits for Boston. Trae Young had 30 points and 10 assists to lead Atlanta.
Boston held its opposition to less than 110 points for the 12th straight game dating back to January 19, while holding a 10-2 record over that span. The Celtics are allowing just 95 points per game over their current eight-game win streak, surrendering fewer than 100 points in six of those contests. Tatum has led the way offensively, averaging 25.3 points and 7.5 rebounds over his last 10 outings.
Daniel Theis (recently acquired) is questionable for Tuesday’s game.
Embiid Carries 76ers To Another Win At Home
The Sixers won their second straight game on Saturday, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-93. Joel Embiid exploded for 40 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double, almost single-handedly leading the 76ers to a win as only two of his teammates scored in double digits. Darius Garland topped Cleveland with 27 points in a losing effort.
Embiid has cemented himself as the MVP favorite this season thanks to an absolutely torrid run since mid-December. The big man averaged 34 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in January and has followed that up with an equally impressive February, piling up 32.2 points and 13.7 boards per contest. When Harden gets into the lineup, it’ll be hard to discount Philadelphia’s chances as a serious contender.
Paul Millsap (recently acquired) is listed as probable to make his 76ers debut.
Celtics vs 76ers Pick & Insights
Celtics: Keys To Cover
Boston’s key in this matchup will be team defense, as usual, and they’ll be particularly focused on shutting down (or at least limiting) Embiid. If the Celtics can hold the star center to 30 points or less, they should have a good shot at keeping their win streak alive.
76ers: Keys To Cover
The Sixers defense has actually been nearly as good as the Celtics’ this season, ranking sixth in the NBA (105.2 points against per game). Without Harden, Philadelphia doesn’t necessarily have the offensive firepower to outscore Boston, so the 76ers might be better off trying to match the Celtics defensively and hope that Embiid can break through for 40-plus points again.
