Nets Lose Despite Monster Performances From Durant And Irving
The Nets fell 132-120 to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday despite big performances from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Irving dropped 43 points and Durant had a double-double with 35 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort. Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton scored 23 each to lead Memphis, while the Grizzlies had five others score in double digits to secure another win without Ja Morant.
Irving’s 43-point performance came eight days after his last appearance – a 60-point showing against the Orlando Magic. Luckily for Irving and the Nets, New York City is set to lift the vaccine mandate for athletes, meaning Brooklyn’s star point guard will finally be able to participate in games at Barclays Center.
Goran Dragic (knee) and Seth Curry (ankle) are probable for Saturday’s matchup.
Heat Blow Fourth-Quarter Lead To Knicks
The Heat were upset by the New York Knicks on Friday as they lost 111-103 on their home court. Jimmy Butler led all scorers with 30 points while Immanuel Quickley scored 23 to top the Knicks. New York had five players finish in double digits while all 10 players score at least five points in a game where they rallied back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Miami still remains atop the Eastern Conference – half a game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks – but their grip is certainly slipping. The Heat have now lost three straight games to the 76ers, a depleted Golden State Warriors squad and a non-playoff team in the Knicks, while averaging just 104.3 points per game in the process.
Tyler Herro (knee), Victor Oladipo (knee) and Gabe Vincent (toe) are questionable.
Nets vs Heat Pick & Insights
Nets: Keys to Cover
It seems safe to assume that if Durant and Irving both have strong showings the Nets will come out on top, though that didn’t happen in their last outing. The duo combined for 78 points yet Brooklyn still found a way to lose to Memphis. The Nets will have to do a better job on the defensive side of the court as they’ve given up more than 120 points per game over their last three contests.
Heat: Keys to Cover
The Heat seem to be getting into their own heads lately: there was a scuffle on the bench during their loss to the Warriors on Wednesday, and then a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Knicks on Friday. It’s hard to pin down exactly what the problem is, but Miami will want to shore up its defense after allowing 114 points per contest over its three-game skid.
