NBA Finals Preview: Can the Cavaliers Bounce Back in Game 2?
The buildup toward Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Finals featured a ridiculous amount of hype, but the first contest of Cavs-Warriors III had the same amount of excitement as a LaVar Ball highlight tape. With Game 2 set for Sunday in Oakland, sportsbooks opened the Dubs as 8.5-point home favorites with a total of 220.5.
Golden State came out of the gate firing and didn’t look back in a 113-91 triumph. Despite having Rihanna chirping in his ear the whole game, Kevin Durant made his NBA Finals debut in a Warriors uniform by pouring in 38 points. Durant’s six first-half dunks tied his career high for dunks in a game.
On the other hand, the Cavaliers couldn’t get anything going and the box sheet shows it. Outside of LeBron James, the Cavs shot just 29 percent on uncontested field goals. Cleveland had 20 turnovers compared to the Warriors’ four – the biggest differential in a Finals game since turnovers were first recorded in 1970-71.
We’ve seen this movie before, though. Cleveland was downright terrible in Oakland to start the series a year ago and dropped the first two contests by a combined 48 points. Point guard Kyrie Irving said it best after Game 1 when he stated “There is no way to simulate the Warriors’ offense."
While OVER bettors were clearly expecting fireworks, Game 1 featured anything but that. UNDER bettors profited once again as the game went below the total by 21 points. In the Cavaliers’ last seven trips to Oracle Arena, the UNDER is 6-1.
