New-Look Pacers and Mavs Debut Fresh Lineups in Season Opener
The Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers weren’t happy with the makeup of their roster after the 2015-16 NBA season, so a major shakeup came to both lineups in the summer. The new-look clubs will do battle at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday to tip off their respective campaigns.
After falling to the second-seeded Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs, Indiana went in a different direction by getting rid of head coach Frank Vogel and bringing in Nate McMillan. Pacers president Larry Bird revamped the team by acquiring talented veterans Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young, Aaron Brooks and Al Jefferson.
The Mavs added two starters from the Golden State squad that set an NBA record with 73 wins last season by signing 24-year-old swingman Harrison Barnes and trading for Australian big man Andrew Bogut. Dallas has reached the postseason in all but one of the last 16 seasons and will likely be in the mix once again come springtime.
Indy has had a major edge in this series lately, winning four straight games over Dallas. The Mavs’ last win against the Pacers came on March 9, 2014.
