The Dallas Mavericks take on the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

Mavericks vs Suns Prediction & Odds: Dallas Looks To Rebound From Game 1 Loss

Dallas (56-33 SU, 52-35-2 ATS) has excelled this season following a SU loss, going 36-15 ATS in its last 51 games in that situation. The Mavs hope that trend continues tonight as they look to square up their second-round series with Phoenix (69-20, 49-40), but the Suns have won each of the last 10 meetings.

Phoenix’s seven-point victory in Game 1 wasn’t enough to prompt oddsmakers to adjust the point spread from the 6 points they favored the Suns by in the series opener. The total for Game 2 has seen a 3.5-point adjustment upward, however, after the teams eclipsed the total by more than 20 points on Monday night.

Doncic Putting Up Huge Numbers For Dallas, But He Needs More Help

If Luka Doncic’s health was a concern for Dallas going into this series, it shouldn’t be anymore. Luka was a one-man wrecking crew for the Mavs in Game 1, collecting 45 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Since missing the first three games of the playoffs with a calf strain, Doncic has scored 30-plus points in three of four outings and recorded at least nine boards in each of them.

Unfortunately for the Mavs, Doncic was, well, a one-man wrecking crew in Game 1. Dallas’ four other starters combined to score just 39 points and backup Maxi Kleber was the only other Maverick to score more than 15 points. “We’ve just got to get someone to join the party,” coach Jason Kidd lamented to ESPN.

A couple of recent trends support backing Dallas in your Mavericks vs Suns prediction for tonight. The Mavs are 36-15 ATS in their last 51 games following a SU loss and are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games when playing on one day’s rest.

Phoenix’s Scoring Depth Helping Suns Overcome Booker’s Shooting Slump

Balanced scoring was far from an issue for Phoenix in the series opener as every starter scored in double figures, led by 25 points from Deandre Ayton and 23 from Devin Booker. Chris Paul added 19 points while Cam Johnson supplied 17 off the bench for the Suns, who opened the game with a 9-0 run en route to their 10th straight victory over Dallas.

Getting contributions from all comers helped the Suns overcome a second consecutive poor shooting night from Booker, who is 12-for-32 in his last two games after returning from a hamstring injury. Phoenix shot 50.5 percent from the field as a team, going OVER the total for the 10th time in its last 12 playoff games as a favorite.

Mavericks vs Suns Pick & Insights

Mavericks: Keys To Cover

Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie were quiet offensively in Game 1 after putting up big numbers in the last series against Utah, and they’ll need to rediscover that form to give Doncic some help. The Mavs can also turn the series with their defense, which was gashed for 121 points Monday after allowing 100 points or less in four of their previous six.

Suns: Keys To Cover

After leading Game 1 by as many as 21 points, the Suns gave their point spread backers a scare by allowing Dallas to outscore them 35-25 in the fourth quarter and covering the spread by just one. If they don’t let up late and can control the paint like they did on Monday, Phoenix minus the points looks like an appealing Mavericks vs Suns prediction.
