Mavericks Have A New Look This Season
The Mavericks had an excellent season in 2021-22 all things considered, claiming their first playoff series win since 2011 en route to a conference finals appearance. Luka Doncic had another excellent campaign, averaging 28.4 points per game while finishing fifth in MVP voting as the youngest player on the ballot at 22 years of age.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows in Dallas, though, as the Mavs lost arguably their second-best player this offseason. Jalen Brunson left for the New York Knicks on a monster $104-million contract, leaving Doncic without a strong offensive guard to play off of. The Mavericks did add center Christian Wood, who had two impressive seasons with the Houston Rockets – can he help fill the void?
Suns Hope To Rebound After Last Season’s Disappointment
The Suns’ season came to a disappointing finish last year as they were demolished by 33 points on their home court by the Mavs. On the bright side, Phoenix did finish with a franchise-best 64 wins in the regular season and all of their main players are back for 2022-23.
Devin Booker will look to lead the team offensively after posting a career-high 26.8 points per game last year. He’ll also have point guard Chris Paul by his side again after the veteran posted an NBA-high 10.8 assists per game in 2021-22. Can Phoenix repeat its success from last year? We’ll find out shortly.
Mavericks Player Prop: Doncic OVER 32 Points (+104)
The oddsmakers are expecting a big night from Doncic, who is getting +104 to hit the OVER on 32 points. If you have faith in the Mavs’ top scorer, it could be a worthwhile wager.
Suns Player Prop: Paul OVER 11 Assists (+106)
Paul has been an elite passer throughout his career but he found another level last season with the Suns, averaging his highest assists per game mark since 2008-09. The Suns point guard is getting +106 to hit the OVER on 11 assists in Wednesday’s game.
Mavericks: Keys To Victory
Dallas had the third-best defense in the NBA last season, giving up just 104.9 points per game. Defense will be especially crucial against the Suns, who had a top-five offense a year ago. If the Mavs can lock it down, they could upset the Suns in their home opener.
Suns: Keys To Victory
While the season didn’t end the way they wanted, the Suns found a winning formula last year and they just need to continue to play their game. Along with Booker, Phoenix had six other players average at least 10 points per game – one of the deepest offenses in the NBA. That should come in handy on Wednesday against the Mavs.
