Mavericks vs Suns Betting Preview
The Dallas Mavericks (25-24 SU, 16-31-2 ATS) are 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last four games against the Phoenix Suns (25-24, 26-23). The Mavericks will try to keep that trend of success going with a road win Thursday night in Phoenix.
Phoenix has gone 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS in its last two home games against the Mavericks, including last season’s disastrous 123-90 loss to Dallas in Game 7 of their Western Conference semifinal series. Prior to those two games, the Suns were 12-1 SU and 10-3 ATS in their previous 13 home dates with the Mavericks.
Latest Betting Notes: Mavericks
The Mavericks continued their recent skid on Tuesday night with a 127-126 loss at home to the Washington Wizards as 7-point favorites. Luka Doncic had another big game with 41 points, 15 rebounds and six assists, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win for Dallas. Doncic leads the NBA in scoring with 33.8 points per game and has also averaged 9.1 rebounds and 8.6 assists.
Dallas is now just 2-7 SU and ATS over its nine games. The Mavericks defense has been awful over that stretch, allowing 120.3 points per game. The team is just 1-7 ATS in its last eight games on the road.
Latest Betting Notes: Suns
The Suns cruised to a 128-97 win and cover as 7.5-point favorites at home against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night. Chris Paul recorded 11 assists for the second straight game and Cameron Johnson led the team in scoring with 24 points in only 18 minutes of play. Phoenix is now a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS through the first four games of a five-game homestand that wraps up Thursday.
This recent hot streak has been a welcome step in the right direction for Phoenix backers after the Suns had failed to win consecutive games since December 20. Phoenix was 2-12 SU and 5-9 ATS in the 14 games prior to this current winning streak.
Mavericks Player Prop: Luka Doncic OVER 9.5 Rebounds (-132)
In addition to being an elite scorer and passer, Luka Doncic also has a knack for rebounding as his 9.1 rebounds per game ranks 18th in the NBA. Doncic has been on a rebounding tear in January, averaging 10.3 rebounds per game, and he has hauled down 10 or more boards in six of his last eight outings.
That stretch includes three straight games with at least 10 rebounds, topped by his 15-rebound performance against Washington on Tuesday. Expect Doncic to light up the stat sheet with another big game on Thursday night that also features him going OVER this posted total of 9.5 rebounds.
Suns Player Prop: Chris Paul OVER 9.5 Assists (-115)
Chris Paul is averaging 8.5 assists per game this season, one full assist lower than the posted total of 9.5 assists on this prop. But with 11 assists in each of his last two games against the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets, the line has been set with some recency bias.
And that makes sense. Phoenix has finally found a rhythm on offense for the first time since Devin Booker’s injury back in December, and Paul’s facilitation with his elite passing in these last two games has played a big role in that. Facing a slumping Dallas defense, look for Phoenix’s offense to keep rolling and for Paul to collect 10 assists or more.
