Trail Blazers Have Been Far From a Lock at Moda Center
Are you paying attention to the Denver Nuggets yet? If not, you should be. Sportsbooks of three straight and seven of their past nine, the red-hot Nuggets are set to tangle with the Northwest Division rival Portland Trail Blazers in Oregon on Monday.
Sportsbook opened the Nugs as 1.5-point road underdogs with a total of 210.
Saturday’s 125-107 win over the Orlando Magic was promising for Denver for a lot of reasons. The Nuggets shot 52.9 percent from the floor and saw all five starters score in double figures, with the backcourt combination of Will Barton and Jamal Murray combining for 58 points and center Nikola Jokic nearly collecting a triple-double. Murray’s 32 points marked a career high for the second-year guard.
In order to combat the scorching-hot Nuggets offense, the Blazers will need to rely heavily on their own star backcourt combo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Lillard is averaging 25.2 points on the season but is mired in a bit of a slump and has failed to reach 20 points in each of the team’s last two games. The 27-year-old is 8-for-36 from downtown in five games this month, including 1-for-10 in the last two setbacks.
The good news for Blazers bettors is Portland has long dominated this series. The Trail Blazers claimed three of the four meetings between the clubs last year and six of seven overall. OVER bettors will be paying attention to this one, as eight of the last nine clashes between the Northwest Division foes have gone above the closing total.
Home-court advantage hasn’t meant much for Portland of late. In the Trail Blazers’ eight home games this season, they’ve covered the spread only twice.
