Jokic And The Nuggets Fall To Lakers
The Nuggets dropped their last game on Sunday as they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 121-110. Nikola Jokic had a somewhat quiet night by his standards with 23 points and 14 boards while Jamal Murray (21 points) was the only other Nuggets player to score 20-plus. LeBron James (26 points) and Anthony Davis (23 points, 15 rebounds) led the way for the Lakers.
Jokic has had a bit of a slow start to the year, averaging just 21 points and 11.1 rebounds per game through his first seven contests. The big man had 27.1 points and 13.8 rebounds during his 2021-22 MVP season so he’s clearly been a step behind last year’s peak.
Gilgeous-Alexander Stays Hot In Thunder Win
The Thunder extended their win streak to four games on Tuesday, downing the Orlando Magic 116-108. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led all scorers with 34 points while four others finished in double digits for the Thunder. Wendell Carter Jr. led the Magic with 30 points and 12 boards but a fourth-quarter rally won the game for Oklahoma City.
Gilgeous-Alexander has kept up his torrid scoring through the first six games of the season, averaging 31.5 points – the fifth-best mark in the NBA – to go with 6.8 assists. Unlike Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander’s scoring rate has skyrocketed this season, up seven points from 2021-22. The point guard is also shooting four more field-goal attempts per game compared to last season – a big reason for his success.
Thunder Player Prop: Jokic OVER 28 Points (+112)
Jokic has gotten off to a bit of a sluggish start but he’s still the reigning MVP and more than capable of an offensive explosion on any given night. The Nuggets star has scored 28 or more just once this season – a 31-point showing against the Lakers on October 26. Can he hit the OVER on 28 points on Thursday? The payout is decent if you think he can.
Nuggets: Keys To Win
The Nuggets have been a pretty unremarkable squad through their first seven games, ranking 16th in team scoring and 23rd in team defense. Jokic himself is probably capable of boosting those numbers up on both ends of the court. If he brings his A-game on Thursday, Denver could dominate.
Thunder: Keys To Win
While the Nuggets have Jokic, the Thunder are more than happy to respond with Gilgeous-Alexander, who’s emerged as one of the NBA’s top scorers this season. If he can maintain his high-volume shooting, it’ll be tough for the Nuggets to keep up offensively.
