The 2024 NBA Finals haven’t had a ton of drama, as the Boston Celtics are up two games to none on the Dallas Mavericks and are now -800 favorites to win the championship at sportsbooks, with the Mavs around +550 to come back and win it all.
But one bettor provided at least some external drama, as he placed a $1.5 million wager on the Celtics to win Wednesday night’s Game 3 at +105 odds. The bet would win $1.575 million if Boston takes a 3-0 lead. The wager was placed in Florida and over the app at a sportsbook.
The Mavericks are currently 2.5-point favorites in Game 3, the first game of the NBA Finals in which they’ve been the chalk. While the public hasn’t really picked a side in Game 3 (bets are close to 50-50 at multiple sportsbooks), the majority of the money has been on Dallas.
“Lot of Dallas support in Game 2 and that’s how the betting has been so far in Game 3,” one bookmaker told me. “Moving home, bettors are counting on them shooting better than they have. Opened -1.5, now at -2.”
Will Dallas make this a series and take Game 3? One bettor in Florida will certainly be rooting for them to do just that.
