Golden State News & Notes
Golden State suffered its second loss of the season on Sunday, falling 106-102 to the Charlotte Hornets as the Warriors’ win streak ended at seven games. Andrew Wiggins led all scorers with 28 points while Steph Curry dropped 24 points and 10 assists for a double-double.
Despite a rough night on Sunday, including a 3-for-13 clip from beyond the arc, Curry still tops the Warriors in scoring this season with 28.1 points per game.
Draymond Green (hamstring) has been ruled out for Tuesday while Gary Payton II (knee) is probable.
Brooklyn News & Notes
The Nets have been hot lately, winning three in a row while averaging more than 120 points per game over that span. They beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-96 in their last outing on Sunday thanks to a 33-point performance from Kevin Durant and 29 points from Patty Mills. James Harden also had a double-double with 16 points and 13 assists.
Durant not only leads Brooklyn but the entire NBA with 29.6 points per game. While still a crucial part of the Nets offense, Harden’s totals have slipped to 19.5 points per game from 24.6 last season.
Paul Millsap (personal), Nic Claxton (illness) and Joe Harris (ankle) are out for Tuesday’s contest.
How Golden State Will Cover
The Warriors are the NBA’s top team so far this season, buoyed by their league-leading offense (115.1 points per game) and third-ranked defense (101.9 points against per game). Even when Curry has an off night like he did on Sunday, he still puts up 20-something points – hard to bet against a player like that.
How Brooklyn Will Cover
The Nets see Curry and raise Durant. As noted, the former Warrior leads the NBA in scoring and has carried Brooklyn to an impressive start even without star point guard Kyrie Irving. The Nets might also be able to take advantage of a weakened Warriors defense with the loss of Green, who leads the team in rebounds (8.1) and blocks (0.9).
