Warriors Have Been Fairly Reliable as Big Road Faves

After reminding the basketball world who’s the best with a beatdown of the Nuggets, the Golden State Warriors head to Hollywood to take on a shell of a Los Angeles Lakers team. The Lakers have been getting stomped by the good teams in the NBA lately and half of their team is on the injured list. The Lakers have the look of a G League team lately and it shouldn’t be a surprise to see them open as a 13-point underdog against the reigning champions with a fairly large total of 228.

STANDOUT STATS

  • The Warriors are 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in eight road games this season when favored by double digits. They were in this exact spot in January vs the Lakers on January 21 and proceeded to stomp the Lakers by 19 points. However, they’re 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games in that spot, regardless of location.
  • In those games above, the OVER hit in seven of them and the average combined score was 242.6 points. It’s also worth noting that only one of those games went below a final combined score of 230 points.
  • The Warriors look like they care lately because, in three of their last four games, they have destroyed teams. The Dubs have beaten the Nuggets, Hornets and Grizzlies by an average of 23 points per game but dropped a road game in Minnesota in overtime.
  • Since the all-star break, the Lakers have been an atrocious spread bet at 7-14 ATS in 21 games while allowing over 115 points per game. They have been the league’s worst three-point shooting team in that span by only averaging 32.1 percent on 32.5 attempts (ranked 17th).
  • The Lakers may be on a little run lately by covering the spread in five of their last six games but have been a train wreck when facing the good NBA teams. In their last 10 games vs teams with winning records, they’ve gone 0-10 SU and 1-9 ATS with an average loss margin of 12.4 points.
  • The total has gone UNDER in six of the Warriors’ last eight games on the road (avg. combined score: 220.75).

My Best Bet for Warriors vs Lakers

OVER 228

This one reeks of an OVER mainly because of how poorly the Lakers’ defense has played lately and how efficient the Warriors’ offense is. I’m not one to just look at one trend and make a pick solely off it but there is something to it when the Warriors are double-digit faves this year because oddsmakers envision a huge night from Golden State’s offense. I think the Lakers can put up 110 points to be respectable but will still likely lose by double digits, so if you can’t stomach taking the OVER in this one, the Warriors at -13 is a decent alternative.
