Clippers, Warriors Both Look To Snap Losing Skids
It was a tough ending to the first half of the season for Los Angeles (24-14 SU, 20-18 ATS) and Golden State (19-18, 18-19), who both entered the all-star break on three-game losing streaks. LA opened as a 7.5-point home favorite but has lost 11 of its last 13 home games against the Warriors.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Los Angeles was favored by 5 and 6.5 points when the teams split a two-game series in San Francisco earlier this season. Both meetings went UNDER the total by a combined 31.5 points.
Golden State News & Notes
Coming off winning the Three-Point Contest at last weekend’s NBA All-Star Game, Steph Curry hopes to carry that momentum into the second half of the season. Golden State’s sharpshooter may have run out of gas a bit before the break, scoring less than his season average in five of his last seven games.
The Warriors also struggled offensively as a team during that stretch, scoring more than 114 points just once and going UNDER in six of those seven contests.
It may explain why Curry and Draymond Green sat out Golden State’s final game before the all-star break, a 120-98 loss to the Suns that marked the Warriors’ third straight defeat. Green, who has averaged 11.2 assists over his last five games, was also nursing a minor ankle issue that should be healed up after a week of rest.
Jordan Poole might hold some fantasy value in the second half of the season after scoring 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting against Phoenix. Head coach Steve Kerr hinted after the game that Poole and rookie center James Wiseman will likely see more minutes the rest of the campaign.
Los Angeles News & Notes
After closing the first half of the season in a 3-6 SU and ATS tailspin, the Clippers come out of the all-star break a disappointing fourth in the West and just 1.5 games ahead of sixth-place Denver. But for Los Angeles to turn things back in the right direction, it might be as simple as having its key players available more often, particularly Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
LA’s dynamic duo has combined to miss 19 of the Clippers’ first 38 games, while fellow former NBA All-Defensive teamer Patrick Beverley missed another 10. With George and Leonard in the lineup, the Clippers are 18-6 SU, and when Beverley has been on the court with them, LA has outscored opponents by an average of 13 points per 100 possessions.
George (dizziness) and Leonard (back spasms) each missed games last week but both saw at least 20 minutes of action in Sunday’s all-star game and should be available to play against the Warriors. However, power forwards Marcus Morris (concussion) and Patrick Patterson (personal) were still listed on the Clippers’ injury report as of Wednesday night.
Betting Pick: Clippers -7.5
Los Angeles is 19-6-1 ATS in its last 26 games with at least three days’ rest and should be motivated to start the second half of the season with a dominant effort.
