Fourth-Quarter Comeback Puts Golden State Up 3-1
After trailing for nearly the entire game, Steph Curry hit a jumper with 3:25 on the clock to tie the game and then hit two free throws with 45 seconds remaining to put the Warriors ahead 94-93 for their first lead of the night. Golden State ended up scoring 39 points in the fourth quarter to earn a 101-98 victory and a 3-1 lead in the series. Curry led all players with 32 points while four other Warriors finished in double digits.
Golden State has shown its playoff pedigree in this series, winning a couple of close contests in Games 1 and 4 while also blowing Memphis out in Game 3. The Warriors actually played Game 4 without coach Steve Kerr, who was sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19 – a testament to their resolve.
Grizzlies Come Up Just Short Without Morant
It was always going to be difficult without Ja Morant, who was sidelined with a knee injury sustained in Game 3, but the Grizzlies put forth a great effort in Game 4. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team with 21 points, Steven Adams had a double-double with 10 points and 15 boards, while five players in total scored in double digits for Memphis.
If there is a silver lining for the Grizzlies heading into Game 5, it’s that they went 20-5 in the regular season without Morant – a winning percentage of .800, which ranks even higher than the NBA-leading Phoenix Suns (.780). Given what we saw in Game 4, it’s certainly possible that Memphis could extend the series even without their leading scorer.
Morant is out for Game 5 and is considered doubtful for the remainder of the playoffs.
Warriors vs Grizzlies Pick & Insights
Warriors: Keys To Cover
The Warriors arguably didn’t have their best showing in Game 4, but got it done thanks to a late rally and some strong defense throughout the game. We know Curry will show up for Golden State but he’ll need more help from Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole, who scored just 14 points each last time out.
Grizzlies: Keys To Cover
Memphis is still an excellent team even without Morant and they’ll need to demonstrate that on Wednesday. Jackson, Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke are all averaging 13-plus points per game in the playoffs – they’ll all need to be great for the Grizzlies to stay alive.
