Third Straight NBA Finals Appearance Officially in Sight for Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have barely had to break a sweat in their Western Conference final series with the San Antonio Spurs, and the Dubs — who hold a 3-0 series lead — can clinch a third straight trip to the NBA Finals when they visit AT&T Center for Game 4 on Monday. Sportsbooks opened the Warriors as 11-point road favorites with a total of 216.5.
The Spurs put forth a better effort at home in Game 3 but still suffered a 120-108 setback. The absence of superstar Kawhi Leonard, who went down with an ankle injury in the series opener, has essentially taken the wind out of San Antonio’s sails and, with it, any real shot of them pushing the stacked Warriors. After all, no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win the series.
Popovich called it “likely” that Leonard will miss Game 4, and forward David Lee is likely to sit out as well after suffering a partial tear of his left patella tendon. In their places, the Spurs will be forced to lean on the ageless Manu Ginobili and second-year guard Jonathon Simmons, who is starting in place of Leonard.
The newest addition to the Warriors, Kevin Durant, has been blossoming without the defensive star Leonard around. Durant took control of Game 3 with 19 of his 33 points in the third quarter and went 11-for-19 from the floor to mark his fifth straight playoff game shooting 50 percent or better. His teammate Stephen Curry is also dominating right now, as the point guard is averaging 30 points on 55.6 percent shooting in the first three games of the series.
OVER bettors continue to profit when these teams get together, evidenced by the OVER going a perfect 4-0 in the last four meetings between the squads.
