Durant Returns to D.C. for First Time as a Member of the Warriors
There was a point in time when the Washington Wizards believed they were a firm contender in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, but those days are firmly in the rear-view mirror now. Durant makes his first return to his hometown in D.C. as a member of the Golden State Warriors tonight, where most sportsbooks opened the Wiz as 7-point home underdogs with a total of 231.
Durant returned from a one-game absence to score 27 points in Monday’s 119-108 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers. Point guard Stephen Curry missed all 11 of his 3-point shots to match the dubious NBA record for most attempts from downtown without a make – shared by Antoine Walker (2001) and Trey Burke (2015). The superstar did score 19 points in the victory, however.
Washington was on fire prior to the all-star break, winning 18 of 21 games, but has lost consecutive contests since returning to play. The Wizards had a streak of 23 straight contests of 100 or more points halted by the Utah Jazz in Sunday’s 102-92 setback.
Golden State has straight up dominated this series over the years. The Warriors have won 11 of their past 12 meetings with the Wizards.
