Rockets’ Shooting Woes are Costing Hoops Bettors
The Houston Rockets were one of the best shooting teams in the NBA a year ago, but they haven’t looked the part in the young 2017-18 campaign. A date with the red-hot Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden awaits the Rockets on Wednesday.
Sportsbook opened the Rockets as 5.5-point road favorites with a total of 212.
Houston paced the Association in three-point attempts last season (40.3 per game) and connected on 35.7 percent of those attempts en route to grabbing the No. 3 spot in the Western Conference. The Rockets haven’t been as sharp on that end this year, as they’re shooting 30.7 percent on 44 attempts per game after going 13-for-47 from downtown in a 115-107 home setback to Philadelphia on Monday.
Porzingis has been the major reason for the Knicks’ turnaround after an ugly 0-3 SU start, as the Latvian poured in a career-high 38 points in a 116-110 win over Denver in the second night of a back-to-back on Monday. New York played its best game of the season on Sunday, hammering the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers 114-95 while easily covering as 10.5-point road dogs.
If the Knicks win tonight, it’ll be a huge shift in the series. Houston has straight-up dominated New York in recent years, going 14-1 SU in the last 15 meetings between the clubs.
