LeBron, Lakers Look To Follow Up Saturday’s Big Win With Another Strong Effort
The NBA world is still buzzing about LeBron James’ 56-point outing on Saturday, five points short of his career high and just the 19th time in history that a 37-year-old player has scored at least 40 points. James did it in efficient fashion as well, hitting 19 of his 31 field-goal attempts —including six treys — and 12 of 13 free throws.
The 124-116 win over Golden State snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lakers, but they’ve still lost seven straight on the road heading into tonight. They’ve also had difficulty lately following up a strong performance with another one, failing to win consecutive games since mid-January and going 16-39 ATS in their last 55 following a SU victory.
Spurs Banged Up Going Into Pivotal Homestand As They Chase Play-In Spot
The Spurs could be short-handed for tonight’s opener of a seven-game homestand that is critical to their hopes of securing a play-in spot in the West. Dejounte Murray (calf contusion) and Devin Vassell (groin tightness) were both listed as questionable at the time of writing, although the injuries didn’t appear to limit either of them in Saturday’s 123-117 loss at Charlotte.
Murray came within one rebound of a triple-double in that contest, while Vassell played 29 minutes, so you’ll want to look for any updates on their status before making your Lakers vs Spurs prediction for tonight.
If one or both of them can’t go, the Spurs will need another huge performance from Keldon Johnson, who made his first nine shots from the field Saturday and finished with a career-high 33 points.
Lakers vs Spurs Pick & Insights
Lakers: Keys To Cover
Saturday’s upset of the Warriors is something to build on, but only if the Lakers bring similar desperation and intensity to San Antonio tonight. Even though LA has just nine road wins all year, the Spurs have been nearly as bad at home, going 11-19 SU on the season and covering just two of their last eight.
Spurs: Keys To Cover
San Antonio is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine as a favorite, but the Spurs can’t afford a slow start tonight because they’ve struggled all year when playing from behind. San Antonio is 0-33 SU when trailing after three quarters and just 3-36 SU in games in which they’ve trailed by 10 points or more.
