Miami News & Notes

Miami entered this current four-game road trip on the heels of a 4-0 SU and ATS run. The Heat have cooled off since then with a 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS record over their last three games, most recently losing 113-101 to the Minnesota Timberwolves as 1-point road favorites. Bam Adebayo led the team in scoring in the loss with 18 points while Jimmy Butler settled for just 16 points against his old team.

Butler is averaging only 20.4 points per game in nine road games this season compared to an average of 28.4 points per game across the seven home games he has played in. Over 649 career games, Butler has actually averaged more points on the road (18.1 per game) than he has at home (17 per game), making this year’s early home and road splits even more odd.

Chicago News & Notes

The Bulls snapped a two-game losing streak with a blowout win over the Orlando Magic, cruising to a 123-88 victory as 9.5-point road favorites on Friday night. DeMar DeRozan scored 23 points in just 28 minutes of play and Zach LaVine scored 21 points in 29 minutes. Coby White had a big game off of the bench going 9-for-11 from the field and scoring 20 points with a +39 plus/minus in the game.

DeRozan is averaging 25.8 points per game this season, currently on pace for his second highest scoring season ever behind only the 27.3 points per game he averaged with the Toronto Raptors in 2016-17. This is DeRozan’s 13th season in the NBA, but the small forward is still only 32 years old. LaVine is also on pace for his second highest scoring season averaging 26.1 points per game after averaging 27.4 PPG last year.

How Miami Will Cover

The Heat should come into this game with fresher legs after having Friday off while the Bulls had a road game and had to travel back home. In what looks like a fairly even matchup on paper, that freshness could be what gives Miami the edge in this one.

How Chicago Will Cover

Miami has been favored in each of its last three road games and is 0-3 ATS with two outright losses over that stretch. Chicago’s starters didn’t have to play too many minutes in the blowout win over Orlando, so if fatigue isn’t an issue, a strong effort at home could easily lead to an outright upset.
