Miami News & Notes

Miami fell 115-113 to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, snapping its five-game win streak. Tyler Herro committed a costly foul on De’Aaron Fox with six seconds remaining, giving Fox an easy two points from the free-throw line. Jimmy Butler had a chance to tie the game with a layup attempt at the buzzer but failed to convert, giving the Kings the win.

Herro and Omer Yurtseven scored 22 points each to lead the Heat, with Yurtseven adding 16 boards for a double-double. Butler scored 21 in the loss.

PJ Tucker, Gabe Vincent, Marcus Garrett, Duncan Robinson, Max Strus and Udonis Haslem (health and safety protocols) are all questionable for Monday’s matchup. Markieff Morris (neck), Dewayne Dedmon (knee) and KZ Okpala (wrist) are also out.

Golden State News & Notes

The Warriors beat the Utah Jazz 123-116 in their most recent outing on Saturday. Steph Curry led the team with 28 points while Andrew Wiggins scored 25 in his second game back from health and safety protocols.

With Wiggins’ return to the lineup and Draymond Green (health and safety protocols) cleared for action on Monday, the NBA’s top team is back to full health and should be virtually unstoppable. Curry is scoring at a clip of 27.7 points per game – the third-best mark of his career – and Wiggins has shown an improved shot from beyond the arc, converting a career-best 2.3 treys per game this season.

Damion Lee (health and safety protocols) is probable to return on Monday.

How Miami Will Cover

The Heat are facing a formidable foe in the Warriors but they do boast an elite defense themselves, surrendering just 103.6 points per game – the third-best mark in the league. It’s obviously a tall task but if Miami can somehow contain Curry, who’s scored 20-plus points in seven straight games, they could keep this one close. If they can’t shut down Curry, they’ll certainly have to keep Wiggins quiet.

How Golden State Will Cover

While so many teams are dealing with injuries and COVID-19, things are looking up for the Warriors, who are more or less fully healthy. With the sixth-ranked offense and the NBA’s top defense, there aren’t many holes to pick in Golden State’s game. With the Heat short-handed and playing on back-to-back nights, the rested Warriors should be able to overpower them.
