Herro’s Buzzer Beater Helps Heat Top Jazz
The Heat picked up their third win in four outings on Saturday as they defeated the Utah Jazz 126-123. Bam Adebayo led Miami with 32 points but it was Tyler Herro who won the game for the Heat, scoring three of his 29 points with a buzzer-beater to avoid overtime. Lauri Markkanen was Utah’s top player in the loss, posting 29 points and 14 boards for a double-double.
Miami has been a big banged up of late, with Jimmy Butler (knee), Caleb Martin (quad), and Dewayne Dedmon (foot) all out of the lineup in Saturday’s win. While Dedmon is still ruled out and Martin is questionable, the good news for the Heat is that Butler has been upgraded to probable for Monday’s matchup. Butler is Miami’s top producer on the season, narrowly ahead of Herro, but Herro was the Heat’s best scorer in December at 24.3 points per game.
George Scores 45 In Loss To Pacers
The Clippers were handed their second straight loss on Saturday as they fell narrowly to the Indiana Pacers, losing by a score of 131-130. Paul George put up his best performance of the year with 45 points while Kawhi Leonard added 24 but it wasn’t enough for the Clippers. Myles Turner had 34 to lead the way for Indiana while Tyrese Haliburton (24 points, 10 rebounds) had a double-double.
Los Angeles had been on a nice run prior to suffering back-to-back losses, going 7-2 in their previous nine contests. The NBA’s third-ranked defense has struggled in its last two outings, though, averaging 123.5 points against in those games – way up from the team’s season average of 109.4.
Clippers Player Prop: George OVER 23.5 Points (-115)
George is averaging just over 24 points per game this season but he saw a nice bump up to 25.5 in December thanks to his 45-point game to end the month. The Clippers shooting guard has scored at least 24 points in six of his last 10 contests so there’s a fair chance he hits the OVER on Monday.
Pelicans vs Grizzlies Picks & Insights
Heat Keys To Win:
On paper this could be a low-scoring affair as both teams rank among the top four defensively and bottom three offensively, with the Heat currently sitting 30th in points per game. Adding Butler back into the lineup will go a long way, but Herro and Adebayo will also need to keep their numbers up if Miami is going to win.
Clippers Keys To Win:
During the nine-game stretch where the Clippers earned seven wins, they were allowing just 106.7 points per contest. If they can get back to their stingy defensive ways and keep the Heat right around that number, they should find their way back into the win column.
